Wirral exhibition inspires team of Authors and Illustrators

AN exhibition on the Wirral featuring some of Quentin Blake's finest artwork has sparked the imaginations of a group of Authors and Illustrators. 5 children's writers and 2 Illustrators from the:- 'Team Author Network' visited the Lady Lever Art Gallery, in Port Sunlight, on 20 January 2019, to view the display of works by the English artist and stories written by John Yeoman. The creative duo is celebrating a 50 year partnership, which over the decades has resulted in them producing an array of projects together including children's picture books and short novels, to name but a few. Today, their work continues to be adored by readers young and old and serves as an inspiration to both established Authors and Illustrators as well as those embarking on new careers.

Sue Miller, founder of Team Author UK which provides a range of services to support Authors across the North West, organized the recent excursion. Sue Miller said:- "It was terrific for our team to be given the opportunity to visit this public exhibition of works by Quentin Blake and John Yeoman. It's always fascinating to see original works of art and better understand the creative process involved in story making even if you're already doing it on a daily basis like so many of our Authors and Illustrators. I know many of them, who is due to publish books later this year, came away buzzing with ideas for new stories. For some of our younger Illustrators, it was a chance to pick up some tips on traditional drawing techniques and investigate different styles."

Among those attending the exhibition was 17 year old Illustrator Will Hawkes from Little Sutton, and Liverpool based Author Jude Lennon who published:- 'Hal and the End Street' together, in 2018. The pair are currently working on the next story in Hal's Book series and Will was recently named as one of 60 extraordinary people with either a learning disability or autism to be making society better for everyone after being selected to feature in the UK's 1st ever:- 'Leaders' List.'

Also attending the exhibition where:- children's Author Imelda Summerton West from Liverpool, along with Author / Illustrator Sarah Wilson from Wrexham, Author Natalia Rojas, from Liverpool, Illustrator Lisa Williams, from Colwyn Bay and Author Lorna McCann, from Shropshire.
