ALMOST 2,000 runners are gearing up to pull on their trainers and race their way round the picturesque setting of Port Sunlight Village in Wirral. Port Sunlight Road Race 2019 takes place on Sunday, 16 June 2019. The event features a 5K race at:- 10am and 10K at 11am, followed by a 1K Fun Run for children aged 12 and under. The 8th annual event is organised and delivered by BTR Liverpool, in conjunction with Port Sunlight Village Trust (PSVT). Unilever is lending its support as headline sponsor for the 6th consecutive year. Both races and the fun run start and finish in the heart of the village at the green, located next to Port Sunlight Museum. The 5K takes runners along the tree lined boulevards and perfectly manicured gardens of the historic village. The 10K follows 2 laps of the 5K route.

In 2018 the Port Sunlight celebrated the 130th Anniversary of the founding of the historic village by William Lever in 1888 for the employees of his Lever Brothers soap works. Today it is considered the finest example of an industrial worker village in the UK.  Port Sunlight Village Trust (PSVT) is an independent charity created in 1999 to be the guardian of Port Sunlight, and celebrates its 20th Anniversary, this year. The charity works with the community to protect the heritage, ensure a great quality of life for residents, and celebrates William Lever's amazing legacy. PSVT invests nearly ₤3million each year in maintaining and conserving the estate and in lifelong learning programmes for all.

Port Sunlight Museum recently retained the title of Small Visitor Attraction Of The Year at the Liverpool City Region Tourism Awards 2019, scooping the award for the 2nd consecutive year. Paul Harris, Chief Executive of Port Sunlight Village Trust, commented:- "Port Sunlight Road Race is a wonderful way to showcase our incredibly unique village, and we're delighted to once again extend a warm welcome to runners and spectators. This is an important highlight in our Summer events programme so it's always fantastic on the day to see our Port Sunlight residents out and about, supporting runners as they make their way round the village."

All runners can enjoy free entry into Port Sunlight Museum upon production of their race number until 31 August 2019. The field of participants includes:- 250 runners who have signed up for the dual race challenge; they will take part in the 5K, quickly followed by the 10K race. As well as collecting both race distance medals and T-shirts, they will also receive a special dual challenge medal to mark their 15K achievement. Dual entries are now sold out.

Unilever is back on board to support the Port Sunlight Road Race for the 6th consecutive year. Founder William Lever built his factory and village in 1888, and the company continues to have world class manufacturing, R&D and IT facilities based in Port Sunlight, along with a third of its UK workforce. Unilever's brands include household names:- Persil, Dove, Tresemme, Radox, Comfort and Surf.  Cameron Jones, Head of Unilever Port Sunlight, added:- "Unilever is delighted and proud to be the headline sponsor of Port Sunlight Road Race 2019. We want to create a brighter future, and by 2020 we will help more than a billion people around the world improve their health and well being. Supporting the Port Sunlight Road Race in our historic home is a fantastic way to show our commitment to this. We have a hugely successful Couch To 5K training programme at Unilever in Port Sunlight and the race day provides a fantastic challenge for our runners to work towards. Good luck to everyone taking part, including our very own Unilever team."

Hoylake based race organisers BTR Liverpool is the leading independent organisation for creating, managing and delivering headline race events across Liverpool City Region. The BTR event portfolio also includes:- BTR Wirral ½ Marathon and 10K; BTR Mersey Tunnel 10K; and BTR Liverpool Santa Dash.  BTR Race Director Alan Rothwell commented:- "We are delighted to once again be working alongside Port Sunlight Village Trust and Unilever to organise and deliver the 5K and 10K races, set against 1 of the Region's most stunning backdrops. And we must thank the Port Sunlight residents for their ongoing support for the event. 5 years ago, a handful of runners set themselves the unofficial challenge of taking part in both races. We've now made the combined 15K distance a Dual Challenge in its own right; and this year we have 250 eager runners keen to collect the extra medal to mark their achievement."

Participants to Port Sunlight Road Race are also invited to visit the 3rd annual Festival In The Park, taking place at New Ferry Park, on Saturday, 15 June and Sunday, 16 June 2019, between 10am and 4.30pm both days. Attractions include:- funfair, vintage buses, Grove Street School Choir, and Wirral Sign Choir. The event marks the 2nd Anniversary of the shocking explosion in New Ferry and is a positive way for the community to come together.

Entries for the Port Sunlight Road Race 5K and 10K are available by visiting:- BTRLiverpool.Com.
