Crosby Coastal Park hosts River of Light's Parabolic Lightcloud

ON Friday, 8 November to Sunday, 10 November 2019, Sefton Council's Tourism Department played host to 1 of the 10 River of Light's art commissions, called:- "Constellations Presents - 'Parabolic Lightcloud,'" at the Crosby Coastal Park.

In the installation 'Parabolic Lightcloud,' Renzo B. Larriviere and Simone Chua (amigo and amigo) use more than 1,000 lights to represent human emotions. This is done via a net of lights that show different colour combinations, patterns. We were told that:- "The transitions of the lights are representative of intense emotions, such as love or happiness, but also calmness or sadness." The reactions from the public have been mixed to the work, but it was intriguing, even mesmeric and obviously very popular with the younger age groups. But the strange UFO shape provided a fantastic backdrop for another part of the event. The shape of the 'parabola' (a hat shape) we are told was based on the famous mathematical figure, the Fibonacci spiral. In the information supplied about it, it said:- "Don't be fooled, this effect can work just as well the other way around!" leading to a few comments that it should have been the other way around, as it would have looked like the 1979 Walt Disney Production's 'Black Hole' introduction, a holographic tabletop that was used to simulate the film's black hole. With all that, is that not the point of art anyway? To encourage the exploration of our imagination? We would love to know your thoughts about this art work…

The event, located next to the new ₤10 million Crosby Lakeside Adventure Centre also included live music performed by local bands and choirs, plus food stalls. The event also promoted South Sefton FoodBank. But the highlight for most attending, including ourselves, added extra pizzazz, was the street theatre show, Spark! Spark!  This performance uses high impact drumming, combined with dynamic choreography and 'alien' characters, with fantastic costumes lit up with reactive LED lighting.

Please tell us your thoughts about this free Crosby Coastal Park event, which signalled the start of Sefton's build up to the:- 'Borough of Culture 2020' via emailing our Newsroom via:- News24@SouthportReporter.Com.

Did you know that the other acts taking part included:- Fire Breather, Voice Your Voice, The Travelling Wannabes, Soul Declaration, Mark James, Maghull Parish Bell Ringers, Georgia Campbell, Paul Anderton, Nocturnal Coast, How Many, Sanny Moyles, Make Noise Choir and Paul Iwan, who all performed to a high standard.
