Historic dock goes sparkling green to support NSPCC

LIVERPOOL'S historic Royal Albert Dock has gone green this week, in a unique show of support for the NSPCC's Christmas appeal. 'Get Your Sparkle On' encourages the public to show their support for the children's charity on 11 December 2019, by wearing sparkling clothing or organising sparkle themed events.

The Liverpool landmark is the 1st around the country to 'go green' in support of the NSPCC, with a stunning light projection, which was designed exclusively for the charity and Albert Dock by Double Take, which illuminates the Merseyside Maritime Museum with a striking and unique message.

Deborah Sefton, fundraiser for the NSPCC, said:- "We are over the moon that Liverpool's beautiful Royal Albert Dock is supporting us this year, and encouraging people to get their sparkle on in such a stunning and eye catching fashion. It's easy for anyone to take part in 'Get Your Sparkle On'  on 11 December 2019; whether you're just wearing a sparkly jumper, or organising a sparkling bake off at work, every single penny raised will go towards helping children and young people get the help they need this Christmas. Special thanks to National Museums Liverpool for their support in making this happen"

Clare Rawlinson, Marketing Director for Royal Albert Dock said:- "Everyone at Royal Albert Dock was delighted to support the NSPCC this Christmas. We pulled out all the stops to create this bespoke projection, and we're very proud of it. We hope everyone who sees the dock sparkle this week takes home the message that Childline is a fantastic service which helps thousands of children every year; even at Christmas; and deserves all the support it can get."

'Get Your Sparkle On' leads into the NSPCC's Light For Every Childhood Christmas campaign.

1 in 5 children in the UK suffer abuse, and every year, specially trained counsellors in Liverpool and around the country answer calls from children suffering their darkest hour. Sadly, 1 in 3 calls to Childline this Christmas will go unanswered, and the fundraising campaign aims to bring a light to every childhood.

Every sparkle, every sequin and every pound raised for the NSPCC helps protect children. Our specially trained counsellors speak to children and young people in their darkest hours every day of the year, even on Christmas Day, and ₤20 would help answer five calls to the Childline service.

Hugh Baird University Centre Lecturers' work gets Beatle's seal of approval

HUGH Baird University Centre Graphic Design Lecturer Andy Jones has used his creative talents to contribute to an art book celebrating the history, culture and people of Liverpool. What's more, the book has received commendation and approval from 1of the City's most famous sons, Sir Paul McCartney.

Launched on Tuesday, 22 October 2019, The Liverpool Art Book: The City Through the Eyes of its Artists, pays homage to arguably 1 of the UK's most iconic Cities.

Andy, who is Course Leader for Graphic Arts at the Hugh Baird University Centre, said:- "My work in the book comes from my passion of observing places and people around Liverpool. Some of my work takes inspiration from the glorious architecture Liverpool has to offer. I love Liverpool and to be represented amongst a wealth of creative talent is nothing short of an honour.."

Boasting an impressive artistic collection that takes the reader on a tour through the colourful spirit of Liverpool and those who live there, it is inspired by the City's vibrant, modern buildings, its statues of icons such as The Beatles and Cilla Black and its majestic and instantly recognisable skyline.

Included as an introduction to the book is a short foreword from none other than Liverpool born fab 4legend, Sir Paul McCartney.

The foreword from Sir Paul reads:- "Any book about my hometown Liverpool is bound to tickle my fancy, but this idea of different artists' interpretations puts a special angle to this great City that I love"

Emma Bennett, Creator and Editor of The Liverpool Art Books, added:- "Liverpool is a fantastic City with a great deal to be proud of. It is not surprising that the iconic sights, colourful characters and varied architecture provides such inspiration to artists working across the full range of creative industries."

The Graphic Arts course at the Hugh Baird University Centre is approved by the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan). For more information please visit:- HughBaird.AC.UK or call:- 0151 353 4444.

All ready for the Formby Christmas Lights Switch On 2019

ON Sunday, 24 November 2019, the Formby Christmas Lights will officially be turned on again. We are told that the beloved Frosty the Snowman will also return this year, outside the Formby Pool, on the dropping off area. This year has yet again be funded by local traders, local organisations and private donations, without them, the Village wouldn't have Festive Lights.

The Formby Christmas Lights Appeal committee, headed by Cllr Denise Dutton, are still fundraising. For more information please visit the events Facebook Page. This year's event will have Christmas market stalls, children's fairground rides and live entertainment, starting at 2pm and running until around 7.30pm. Lights are due to be switched on at around 5pm. Please be aware that road closures will be in place on Chapel Lane, from the War Manorial Roundabout to junction of Brows Lane and Rosemary Lane. Elbow Lane will also be closed from Sumner Road to Chapel Lane.
