RMT members vote to seek a negotiated settlement to Guards issues on Northern Rail

RMT members vote overwhelmingly to press ahead with seeking a negotiated settlement to Guards' safety dispute on Northern Rail. RMT members on Northern Rail have voted by nearly 95% in a referendum ballot to press ahead with negotiations with the company aimed at reaching a long term settlement to the guards' safety dispute that secures cast iron guarantees on the safest method of operation, assuring passenger safety and accessibility. General Secretary Mick Cash said:- "Our Northern Rail members have given our negotiators an overwhelming mandate to press on with the detailed talks with the company aimed at securing cast iron guarantees on the role of the guard and the safest method of operation on the company trains that puts passenger safety and access‎ 1st. RMT's objective throughout has been to ‎secure a guarantee of a guard on every train with a safety critical role including at the crucial platform/train interface at the point of despatch. That remains our focus as the talks progress."


British Legion Christmas Concert - 8 December 2019

COME and join the award winning Skelmersdale Prize Band for their Christmas concert, that will; take place on Sunday, 8 December 2019, from 2:30 pm, at the Prince of Wales Hotel, Southport. The band will be providing great family entertainment featuring some modern and classic Christmas repertoire and songs, and some none festive pieces, with plenty for the audience to join in too. Southport Round Table is getting ready for Father Christmas's visit Southport

THE Southport Round Table are looking at building on the massive success of the 2018 Father Christmas Float and are now planning on being bigger and better this year. The Charity are hoping to be able to visiting more locations this year. this event not only raises awareness of the charity, but also vital funds as well as spreading Christmas cheer around the area. This years float will be running from Monday to Thursday, for the 3 weeks, in December, starting on the Monday, 2 December 2019. The cash raised will be used, as normal, to help fund local charities and community projects.

The Southport Round Table offers a wide range of benefits to it's members and they are now looking for new members to join them. Marc Foreman told us:- "Membership numbers for most charities are dwindling at the moment and we want to try and gain further members, males between the ages 18 to 41. We all have families or kids and try and get them involved in the charitable events we put on, but understand times are hard. We come from all backgrounds and with all types of work and just all get on, so hopefully you will become part of this amazing network. We offer for our members a form of extended family, to lend them that extra support and energy that we all need."

Festive Nutcracker trail has come to Southport this Christmas!

THE magic of a traditional Christmas tale has been brought to life across Southport with the arrival of a band of Nutcracker Toy Soldiers. The colourful characters, each standing 6ft tall, marched into Southport, on Wednesday, 20 November 2019, and will stand to attention at locations around Southport's Town Centre, until Thursday, 2 January 2020. Following the festive trail is a free family fun way of taking in some of the Christmas highlights that await discovery around this beautiful seaside town, as families can set off to explore the town to find the names of all 10 Nutcrackers to be in with a chance of winning an iPad mini! For more information on the trail please head to:- VisitSouthport.Com or SouthportBID.Com for all Christmas updates and news. Trail booklets are available at The Atkinson or Wayfarers Arcade. Southport BID has organised the trail to bring festive charm to the Town Centre and provide a unique, new attraction in the run up to Christmas Interim BID Chair, Susannah Porter says of the trail:- "We are excited to have brought the Nutcrackers into the town. The tale of the Nutcracker Doll is a magical Christmas story and we wanted to bring that magic to Southport. The trail will add some festive charm and will be a great way to entertain the family in the run up to Christmas. We also want to give visitors extra reason to visit the town centre, and to give them an incentive to explore all that Southport has to offer The BID will also be putting on festive street entertainers, including some real life Nutcrackers, over the Christmas period, and are working with retailers on a late night shopping event for the 19 December 2019."
