Santa Watch 2019

ON Merseyside, we continued our tradition of keeping a lookout for Santa as he takes to the sky delivering presents to people all over the World. This year we again teamed up with emailSanta.com and others to watch out for him. These are a few pictures we captured of him as he visited the chimney on which we had installed our SantaCam. He commented to us later that:- "Global weather patterns have made this year's delivery harder than ever, as the lack of snow has made it extremely difficult for me to land and take off. In the Southern hemisphere, the horrific fires that are currently burning furiously were upsetting to see and very dangerous to approach. We did not want to let anyone down, but had to be very careful indeed! Big thanks to all of you who put out food for me and my Reindeer. Sorry I was not able to get fully on the webcam this year, but will try next year to time it so you can see me on it!"

Southport Christmas Lights vandalize

THIS year, the Christmas Lights on Lord Street are repeatedly being vandalized. The main tree has been attacked by vandals a few times in late afternoons.  This has resulted in the lights falling on the main structure as well as damage to the structure itself. In 1 of the incidents, local residents found a section of the lights from the light tree dumped in a local park. On another occasion we are told, someone tried to pull the star off the top of the structure. Sadly, no 1 has reported seeing these despicable acts taking place. If you do spot something happening, please report it to the Police, if this continues it may well be too expensive next year to have festive lights. The Southport BID said:- "When we had a traditional real tree it was often vandalized, it was hoped that having a modern style tree would deter vandals, but sadly not! What's the matter with people? We have had a number of incidents of serious vandalism this year in the run up and over Christmas. The local lighting team has been out, over and over again, working hard to repair the lights, working round the clock. Sadly, some of the tree lights along the main road are so damaged we cannot get them repaired over the festive season. These lights have also been targeted throughout the year, not just over Christmas. We have even found out that people have used wire cutters. With so many shops and businesses struggling in Southport, this is the last thing we want. Not only is this dangerous, it is destroying the reputation of the Town. Please help us to keep the tree lit for families to continue to visit and enjoy. If you spot anyone attempting to climb the tree or damage it, or any of the other lights, in and around the Town Centre please report it to the Police via calling:- 101."
