Exclusive lecture by Andy Briggs and screening of critically acclaimed "Crowhurst"

WE can announce that VAMPHire.Com will be presenting a talk by Liverpool born author and screenwriter, Andy Briggs, at the Southport Bijou Cinema, on 1 March 2020. It is worth adding Andy is also been a Director and a Producer, and is his books available within UK, Czech Republic, Thailand, France, Germany, Romania, Bulgaria , Canada, USA, New Zealand, Australia and South Africa to name just a few countries. He has also gained a huge following after he gained official permission to reboot the classic character Tarzan, with a series of contemporary books:- "Tarzan - The Greystoke Legacy," "Tarzan - The Jungle Warrior" and "Tarzan - The Savage Land." Also, his young adult novels:- "Hero.com" series and the "Villain.net" that have had quite a hit on the book charts and are now due to be developed into a television series. But on the TV and film side, Andy Briggs' career started as an un-credited writer working on story development for TV series:- "Highlander" in 1991.

Andy is well known for working extensively in the UK and US and in China too, on TV projects for the:- BBC, Syfy, Netflix, ITV Sci-Fi Channel, BKN Kids, Disney XD and Amazon.

Currently Andy, on the convention circuit, is best known for his work on movie projects such as:- 'Judge Dredd' and 'Freddy Vs Jason' and 'Foreverman,' along with his work with Paramount Pictures' 'Spiderman' creator, Stan Lee and legendary producer Robert Evans.

Andy has also been engaged in Warner Bros.' animated:- "Aquaman" as well as UK/Chinese movie:- 'Legendary' that starred both:- Scott Adkins and Dolph Lungdren. That's not forgetting:- 'Supervised' which was directed by:- Steve Barron, starring:- Tom Berenger, Beau Bridges and released in 2019; along with:- 'Ghost Town,' 'Rise of the Gargoyles,' 'Passage of the Four' (aka 'Screaming Night'), 'Dark Relic,' 'Legendary - Tomb of the Dragon,' 'Legendary - The Shocate,' along with:- 'Blake - Double Identity.'

Currently he is working with:- 'The Shingle Media,' is a new production company that will make theatre, TV and film. It already has an exciting slate of projects. Plus his latest series of middle grade novels:- 'The Inventory,'  'Drone Racer,' along with:- 'CTRL+S.' And that's just the start…

This exclusive talk will be accompanied by a screening of his critical acclaimed movie:- 'Crowhurst' which was directed by Simon Rumley, Dist. Studio Canal.

The event will start at 7:30 pm with doors opening at 6:30 pm, on 1 March 2020. The event will also encompass a short Q&A session. Tickets are limited to 78 and cost ₤5 each. Tickets can be obtained via the Southport Bijou Cinema website. Please note that the film, showing after the talk, is a 12

'Crowhurst'
is a film set in 1968. It focuses on an inexperienced sailor who enters a round the world race, which he fears he won't be able to complete yet alone win. In order to save his dignity, he decides to cheat to come last, but things don't go according to plan. This is film stars Justin Salinger as:- Donald Crowhurst and Amy Loughton as:- Clare Crowhurst.

The Southport Bijou Cinema  is located on Post Office Ave, Southport, PR90US.  Within easy walking distance of both the x2 and 2 bus stops and also Southport's Merseyrail Station.


Funding available for good causes in Woolton

VOLUNTARY groups in Woolton are being urged to apply to a special grant fund which aims to improve recreational and educational opportunities in the area. The Woolton Educational and Recreational Charity was set up following the sale of the Woolton Village Club in 2000. Richard Lindsey, the 3rd Allerton Scouts Cub Scout Leader said:- "The awards we have received really do make a long term difference to our activities."

The club was sold for ₤300,000 and the charity uses the interest on the proceeds of the sale to fund local projects aimed at improving the quality of life for everyone.  In 2019 a host of great causes local to the Woolton area benefited from the charity. These included the 3rd Allerton Scouts which received ₤1,000 to buy archery equipment, the Woolton Air Cadets which was given ₤1,050 for 1st aid equipment and the Friends of Reynolds Park, which was given ₤1,800 to buy children's play equipment.  In 2020 it is anticipated that the charity will have about ₤13,000 available to invest in projects from local groups. Cllr Malcolm Kelly, Chair of The Woolton Educational and Recreational Charity, said:- "The Village Hall was gifted to the people of the village by William Dodge James in 1896.  Since its sale, we have used the proceeds to invest in the local community and support many fantastic initiatives from local groups. The application process is open to anyone in the Woolton area who wants to use the funding to help improve recreation and education in the area. We look forward to receiving your bids."

5th person arrested after woman sustained burn injuries

A total of 5 people have now been arrested after a woman sustained burn injuries at a flat, in Southport, on Thursday, 26 December 2019. Emergency services were called at about 8.35pm to a report a woman had suffered burns to her hands, arms and neck at a flat, on Derby Road. The victim, a 38 year old woman, remains in Hospital. We are also told that a 32 year old man, from Southport, was arrested on suspicion of attempt murder on Wednesday, 15 January 2020. He has been released under investigation, following on from 4 arrests were made in 2019, in relation to the incident:-

A 59 year old male, from Southport, arrested on suspicion of attempt murder. He has been released under investigation.

A 36 year old male, from Birkdale, was arrested on suspicion of attempt murder. He has since been released under investigation.

A 49 year old male, from Southport, was arrested on suspicion of attempt murder. He has since been released on conditional bail.

A 40 year old male, from Southport, was arrested on suspicion of attempt murder. He has since been released under investigation.
