The aftermath of Storm Arwen is still being cleared up

THE after effects of Storm Arwen on the Region are extremely evident in Formby and it will last for many years. When the storm hit, it coursed significant damage as in other parts of the UK, but on a small stretch of road, on Kirklake Road, between St Luke's Drive and Greenloons Drive, the effects of the wind even hit national TV. Arwen's high winds had ripped out of the ground and other damage trees all along the road, well known for its Pine Trees. Throughout the week experts from Idverde UK, surveyed the damage and removed fallen and damaged trees, leaving a large section of land completely void of trees. It is hoped that new pine trees will be able to be placed on the land to replace those lost in the storm. It has also brought with it some questions, as a resident pointed out that this could be a very good opportunity to help with resolving the parking issues being faced by the Village.  What are your thoughts on this issue? LGA responds to NAO report on regulation of private renting

RESPONDING to a report by the National Audit Office (NOA) on regulation of private renting, Cllr David Renard, Local Government Association housing spokesperson, said:- "Councils want all tenants to be able to live in safe and secure, high quality housing and can play a key role in driving up standards in the private rented sector. With more powers such as the freedom to establish landlord licensing schemes, Councils would be better placed to support a good quality local private rented offer in their communities. Where Councils need to take action, some issues may be resolved without the need for inspection and enforcement is a last resort when all other options fail. Longer term, the key to increasing housing security is to address the un-affordability of housing. Giving Councils the powers and resources to build 100,000 social homes for rent a year would go a long way towards tackling this urgent issue."
