ON the nearest 24 April 2022, local Scout, Beaver and Cub troupes gathered in mass for the 1st time since before the Covid19 Pandemic, for the areas Annual Scout St. George's Day Parade. For the 1st time, representatives from Formby also took part in the event, due to the Formby area groups now being combined with Southport area, to form North Sefton District Scouts. The event was also the very 1st time that the Scout Organization's new Squirrels took part in the parade after only recently being formed. The large parade started and ended in Southport's Princes Park, next to the Big Wheel at Southport Pleasureland. It's route, unlike in previous years was far shorter than normal and only went round King's Gardens and the Marine Lake, as numbers attending meant the event was unable to host the traditional service that was held at the end of the parades in the past.
Sefton North Scouts Spokesperson, Kim, said:- "We have wanted to get back to running the parade ever since the Pandemic hit. It was great to see lots of our Towns young people and adult volunteers turning out in full smart uniform and taking part. Even the Sun came out! Taking part this year her members Southport/Ainsdale's:-1st, 2nd, 14th, 19th, 40th, 48th, 55th, 58th, 61st, 62nd Scouts, Cubs and Beaver groups, along with the brand new section Squirrels, from the 48th Southport , dressed in Orange. As we are now as Sefton North, so a few Formby Scouts joined the parade as well. We would like to thank all those who came out to cheer us on and also a very big thank you to all who took part in this event."
We will
have more photos in next weeks issue as well!
