Georgia is the new Miss Liverpool City Region 2022

ON Thursday, 25 August 2022, we headed to the Fashion Hub Liverpool to see the finals of the Miss Liverpool City Region championship. Miss Liverpool City Region is a direct Qualifying Heat of Miss England and those who win the title go directly into Miss England Finals. They represent the Region and could end up at Miss World, representing out nation. The event, despite what some say, including some contestants who don't get picked, is about helping charity, promoting the Region and setting good role models for the next generation to look up to. The organiser, doesn't have a say in who gets picked and it is all on what the judges see on the night. This year had an incredible group of contestants, some of who you can hear their presentations on our video footage. This included a Doctor, who completed her final year at Liverpool's old Royal Hospital over the Pandemic. All these young ladies gave the judges a very hard job to pick the winner. The judges did not just look at the backgrounds, and the contestants looks, but also other things. We can't list them, but they are not what you would think they are.

This years judges were:- the outgoing Miss Liverpool City Region Poppy Gerrard, previous winners Elli Wilson and Jess Page, all of whom went on to the Official Miss England Final.

Host for the night is William Thompson. Entertainment is by Sophie Clarke.

Sadly not all the contestants who entered could take part on the night, but those who did were:- Georgia Austin, NAME REMOVED, Kierra Greenough, Wilktoria Liszka, Lucyrose Mottram, Emma Rainbird, Charleigh-Paige Tartt, Anaia Jonas, Vanesso Tendo, and Amy Wilson.

The winner who will now be representing our Region to the Nation and possibly to the World, is a Professional Dancer, Georgia Austin. Georga is aged 22, and comes from Childwall, a suburb and ward of Liverpool, England, located to the South East of the City.

The Runner Up was 22 year old Vanesso Tendo, who is a student studying MSc Project Management in Liverpool.

Congratulations to Georgia, who was surprised to have won and told us on the night:- "I want to use this opportunity to help my Region. I look forward to helping local charities and promoting what we have that most people outside our area do not know about, like the hidden treasures within Liverpool's World Museum, and our amazing Parks and Gardens. I'm humbled at being picked and to have a chance to go to the national finals of Miss England 22, and possibly to even represent England in Georgia. It would be amazing to be able to remind the world of our Region's influences, from cultural to scientific discoveries., and highlight our historical achievements that often get overlooked. But, my favourite thing about the new Liverpool Museum, might not be 100% Liverpool, but it is the Dr Who exhibition, that is currently on show! This is something I want to do, should I become Miss England. But as Miss Liverpool City Region, I hope to be able to remind people all over England, that Liverpool is both vibrant and still a world-leading City. Getting crowned is amazing and I have never entered a beauty pageant before. Despite being a dancer and in entertainment, this was quite hard to do. All the contestants on the night offered so many amazing directions for the competition to go, and I was scientifically moved by some of their backgrounds and what they had done in their lives. It was a real pleasure meeting them and I hope to meet them all again."

We will be conducting a full interview with Georgia very soon. For more information about Miss England, please go to:- and for Moss Liverpool City Region, please go to:- Miss-Liverpool-City-Region.com.

Georgia is going to be available for helping charities, so if you have an event, please get in contact with the organiser Pat Hughes, on Facebook or email:- Pat@Miss-Liverpool-City-Region.com.

We want to thank the outgoing Miss Liverpool City Region, Poppy Gerrard, for doing an amazing job of raising cash for many chaities and even helping to teach mathematics to children, over the Pandemic. We wish her the best of luck with her new path, as she heads to University. Poppy was a fantastic example of all that is good with young people, and is a true role model for others to follow...

Menopausal women lose out on 5 weeks of sleep per year, study finds

WOMEN going through menopause lose an average of more than 5 and a half weeks of sleep per year, according to new national research. The study, conducted by sleep experts at Silentnight, was commissioned to lay bare the true impact that the menopause is having on sleep. It found that 64% of women going through menopause suffer from disrupted sleep.

The survey further revealed that women going through menopause wake up an average of 2.7 times per night, losing an average of 2 hours and 36 minutes of sleep. That adds up to more than 5 and a ½ weeks of lost sleep over the course of a year, and 22 weeks of lost sleep weeks over the course of an average woman's menopause.

According to the experts at Silentnight, the UK's most trusted sleep brand, changes in hormone levels as we age can cause sleep disturbances, and sleep disturbances can alter hormone levels, turning into a vicious cycle. Sleeplessness can affect around 10 different hormones and shifts in these hormones can cause changes in appetite, mental wellbeing, cardiac health and even fertility.

The research found 82% of women going through menopause suffer from body temperature issues, with 61% experiencing night sweats, 41% suffering from insomnia and 23% enduring heart palpitations.

It's not just at night that the menopause has an impact, with 67% of women revealing they were more tired during the daytime than they ordinarily would be when going through menopause.

Silentnight's research also found there is work to be done when it comes to helping women as they go through menopause with 55% of women agreeing that there is a stigma in talking about it. Just 21% of women believe there is enough menopause-related support, while 42% did not seek out a professional to help them through the process.

Women cited several personal problems as a result of menopause, with 36% suffering from confidence issues, 30% experiencing relationship problems and a 25% having issues with their social life.

Hannah Shore, Silentnight Sleep Expert, said:- "Our research lays bare the true scale of the issue when it comes to sleep and menopause, with women losing out on more than a month of sleep each and every year. This adds up to a huge amount of lost sleep over the average course of a woman's menopause, which can last up to ten years for some women and can trigger a host of other issues from insomnia to problems in people's personal lives. To help get access to good quality sleep through the night when going through the menopause, we need our body temperature to drop by around a degree or 2. Keeping a cool temperature in the bedroom and using light, natural blend linen and/or nightwear is one good way to get ahead, silk can be particularly effective for keeping cool. When selecting your pillow, try staying away from foam products as they tend to hold onto heat, instead opt for breathable polyester or natural products, like Silentnight's Airmax Pillow. For sleepers who tend to overheat all year round, the Silentnight Eco Comfort Breathe Mattress is designed to regulate body temperature. Tested on menopausal women, the mattress has a patented microclimate system which is scientifically proven to keep the sleeper cooler, resulting in less disruption and less awakenings during the night, with our testers saying they fell asleep quicker and woke up feeling more relaxed just by changing their mattress. Anyone who's really struggling with their sleep when going through menopause should start by seeing their GP for advice and further treatment."
