Merseyside Police Matrix Car involved in RTC with black Audi

ON 8 October 2022, at around 10:30am, a Merseyside Police Matrix Car was involved in an RTC with a black Audi. The crash resulted in the Matrix Police Unit having mounted the pavement and sustained damage along with destroying the safety barrier. This then resulted in A565 Rimrose Road Southbound being closed, at Knowsley Road Junction for several hours, leading to congestion on many of the routes through Seaforth. In a statement following the incident, Merseyside Police said:- "We would like to thank the community for their patience whilst the road closures were in place and the matter is under investigation."

Abbeyfield Scarecrow Challenge

THE Abbeyfield Society, that oversees 300 Abbeyfield care homes, sheltered housing, looking after 1,000 residents and 400 staff are holding a:- "Scarecrow Challenge" at the charity's centres, that includes 3 in Sefton. Abbeyfield houses and homes nationwide see it's staff, residents and volunteers routinely put on events and activities that welcome in people from the local neighbourhood, as seen by the Platinum Jubilee parties held in June and year round open days, fêtes and coffee mornings. This is just 1 of the latest to be held, that allows it's Staff and residents the opportunity them to use their imagination and draw on their creativity.

The 3 homes in Sefton are no exception. For example, Halcyon House Care Home, in Formby, create scarecrows depicting the Beatles, resplendent alongside their instruments in their Sergeant Pepper uniforms. Marsh House sheltered housing scheme, in Crosby, chose a couple of prospective residents in military garb as the inspiration for their scarecrows. Also, The Old Vicarage in Blundelsands, Crosby, created a brilliant scene of a PC catching a robber in the act of scaling the walls of the house with his bag of swag.

Anna Boyes, Abbeyfield's Director of Marketing, said:- "We wanted to devise an autumnal competition that allowed our talented staff and residents to show a bit of creative flair. The scarecrows help to put our houses and homes on the map, and will hopefully become a quirky feature that will attract the attention of passers by. As the weather grows colder, the scarecrows will serve as a reminder of the warm, friendly environment that Abbeyfield provides. Abbeyfield provides the perfect solution to the accommodation and support needs of over 55s, whilst enabling them to maintain as much independence in later life as they wish. Through our values of community and companionship, we strive to help alleviate the feelings of loneliness and isolation that can be quite prevalent amongst the older population, particularly over the winter months."
