Police Commissioner starts search for a Deputy to work alongside her building a stronger, safer Merseyside

MERSEYSIDE'S Police Commissioner has started the search for a Deputy to join her small team. Emily Spurrell has launched a recruitment drive to find an:- "experienced and dedicated individual" to take up the role of Deputy Police and Crime Commissioner.

The successful candidate will work alongside the Commissioner to deliver her Police and Crime Plan for Merseyside and be able to deputise for her, when necessary, while also leading on a number of vital areas of policing and community safety.

As part of a recent review of the PCC role, the Home Office indicated they will require all PCCs to appoint a Deputy.

Under the terms of the legislation which dictates how PCCs operate, Emily could make a personal appointment to the Deputy position, but she has chosen to advertise the part time role and carry out independently observed interviews in order to increase the openness and transparency of the selection process.

The Commissioner is inviting applications from those who have significant leadership experience or individuals who are well-connected community figures for the role. The deadline for applications is Sunday, 30 October 2022.

Interviews will take place on Wednesday, 16 November 2022, led by the Commissioner and her Chief Executive Sue McTaggart MBE joined by an external, independent interviewer. The body which scrutinises the PCC's work, the Police and Crime Panel, will also support the process.

Following the interview process, the successful candidate will then be put forward for a confirmation hearing with the Police and Crime Panel, who will review the appointment.

I am searching for a Deputy who has extensive leadership experience or is a well-respected and connected community leader, who is able to network and build relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders. I am looking for someone who cares deeply about our Region and who will help me to scrutinise and oversee the work of Merseyside Police, support victims of crime and deliver on my priorities for Merseyside. Although being a member of the Labour Party is not a requirement for the role, candidates will be expected to share Emily's values and principles. The successful applicant will also be required to pass a vetting check and must meet all the statutory requirements of the Deputy PCC within the Police Reform and Social Responsibility Act 2011.

The role is being on offered on a fixed term contract until May 2024, working 3 days a week, with a salary of £33,537 per annum.
