Children's social worker? Get hired from your living room!

CHILDREN'S social worker? Want to find out why Liverpool is the best place to work in the UK? Want to secure a great new job without leaving your home? Then join Children and Young People's Services next week for our very 1st virtual recruitment event!

Taking place on Thursday, 10 November 2022, running from:- 6pm to 7pm, the Teams event will feature senior Managers who will set out Liverpool's offer as a great place for children's social work practice as well as answer questions on the pioneering family safeguarding model which is coming to the City.

Attendees will be able to hear from the Council's Director of Children and Young People's Services Steve Reddy, members of Liverpool's Social Work team and from learning and development colleagues who will share details of Liverpool's commitment to continuing professional development.

There will also be an opportunity to ask the team questions and to register an interest for an online interview within the following week.

Liverpool has started its journey to embed the Family Safeguarding Model. Training has already begun with current staff and will go live next summer. Liverpool City Council is the seventeenth local authority to adopt the model nationally and the 1st Core City and 1st Council in Cheshire and Merseyside to do so.

The virtual recruitment event is free, but a place must be booked in advance though Eventbrite.

Cllr Frazer Lake, Cabinet member for Adults' and Children's Social Care, said:- "We are heading into an exciting time for children's social work in Liverpool. Moving towards the Family Safeguarding Model is a really important step for the City and 1 that we know will support families in the best way possible. Engaged and dedicated social workers are the key to the success of the model. We have a great team here in Liverpool and we want to build on that and that's why we are holding our very 1st virtual event. It's a great way of reaching out further and giving as many people as possible the opportunity to hear why Liverpool is the best place in the UK to work. Come and join us on the 10 November, it could transform your life as well as those of the families you work with."

Areta Kalungi, children's Social Worker, said:- "The team in Liverpool has been really welcoming and during my time on my placement they've made the transition into the social work job really smooth. I just love everyone who works in Liverpool. They've been really supportive on my journey so far."

THE newly opened Grand on Lord Street have announced their exciting plans for a spectacular Christmas lights switch on, Sunday, 6 November 2022, at 5:30pm. The owners of the stunning art deco building are planning turn the venue into a magical focal point, on Lord Street, Southport, installing over 15,000 twinkly lights, 6,000 baubles and garlands galore to make The Grand the shining star of Southport this festive season.

The venue which was recently been restored to Its decadent former glory has a wonderful evening of entertainment planned to get you into the festive spirit at this free to attend event. Claire Simmonsen, Local radio presenter and star of this year's panto at The Atkinson, will host the switch on to the sounds of The Haydock Brass Band playing your favourite Christmas carols plus a local choir and more. Inside the festivities continue into the evening with live music, warming mulled wine and a mince pie or 2 as you enjoy the entertainment.

Andrew Mikhail says of the planned event:- "As soon as I saw The Grand lit up on our opening night in all its splendour, I could already envisage the venue featuring some special Christmas lights and decorations. Working with Ivandale Ltd, owned by fellow Southport businessman and regular guest at The Grand, Tom Archer Madden we have turned that dream into a reality. Tom and his team put forward their proposal and together with the team came up with the exciting scheme. The already spectacular listed building will be a real feature. On Lord Street this Christmas. I want to give the people of Southport something to really look forward to and hope that The Grand will feature in their plans. We want families and friends alike to join us for what will be a wonderful occasion."

Table bookings are now open for the early November date to enjoy drinks in Chloé's Piano Bar or a delicious Sunday Roast in The Brasserie. Follow The Grand on social media for more details. Formby's The Cross House Pub Reopens

THE Cross House, on 3 Tuns Lane, has now reopened following a significant 6 figure investment designed to transform the pub. Located just 10 minutes away from Formby Beach, the Cross House closed several weeks ago for a full refurbishment, which has modernised both the interior and exterior of the community pub. The investment has also provided a significant boost to local recruitment, with 10 new team members hired in recent weeks.



On the outside, both the front and rear beer gardens have been significantly upgraded with new colour schemes throughout. 6 new heated huts have been added to the rear garden along with all new furniture ensuring guests can enjoy the outdoor space throughout the winter months. At the front, new planters have been added giving the pub a welcoming feel.



Internally, the Cross House has been totally remodelled, with several interior walls removed to create a bright, open plan space. As well as a new colour scheme and new furniture throughout, the bar area has also been remodelled, gaining a new draft cocktail station filled with a range of premium serves.



Conrad Carter, General Manager of the Cross House said:- "The Cross House is a classic community pub with such a wide range of customers. Whether you're meeting friends for brunch or cocktails, if you're a sports fan or if you're simply out for a day with the family, we've got something for you. The entire team is thrilled to be able to reopen our doors so make sure to head on in for 1 of our upcoming music nights over the next few weeks!"



A popular sports pub, the Cross House now has several new 60 Inch TV screens, showing all the latest games on Sky, BT, and Amazon Prime providing the perfect setting to enjoy the upcoming football this winter. The pub is also a Greene King Season Ticket site, meaning regulars can download the Season Ticket app for a free drink when they sign up and 10% off selected drink purchases through the app.
