People urged to wear their poppy with pride after launch of 2022 Poppy Appeal in Southport
THE official launch of the 2022
Poppy Appeal in Southport has taken place. The event was led by Mayor of
Southport Cllr Clare Carragher at The Monument on Lord Street in Southport Town
Centre on Saturday morning.
Cllr Carragher is also the President of the Royal British Legion in Southport.
She was joined by local veterans, volunteers from Southport Royal British
Legion, members of 281 (Southport) RAF Air Cadets Squadron, at RAF Woodvale, and
ACF Army Cadets.
People are now able to buy their poppies and give donations to the Poppy Appeal
through volunteers manning a stand at The Monument over the next few days.
People can also call into the Southport Veterans Hub, on Wesley Street, in
Southport Town Centre, while poppies are also on sale at shops, cafes, pubs,
restaurants and other local businesses throughout Southport.
This year's Remembrance Sunday Parade will take place in Southport Town Centre
this weekend.
Mayor of Sefton, Cllr Clare Carragher, said:- "On Saturday on a very cold
wet morning we launched the Poppy Appeal with the Royal British Legion in
Southport. Our volunteers will be out and about for the next few days. Please
support the Poppy Appeal and wear your poppy with pride."
Southport Royal British Legion Chairman Major Nick McEntee said:- "You can
pick up your poppy from various locations across Southport and from our stand by
the Memorial, our Southport Veterans Hub on Wesley Street and at our pop-up shop
in Southport Market. Behind the scenes our volunteers have been working non-stop
to get poppies to your schools, shops and cafes… and we've still more to
deliver! We would like to say a huge thank you to our local RAF cadets and the
ACF for supporting the launch, and of course to our team of veterans who have
been working so hard behind the scenes to make the Poppy Appeal happen this
year! We were delighted to welcome The Mayor Of Sefton, also our branch
President, to the town on Saturday morning too. Lest We Forget."
