Southport Remembrance Sunday 2022

THE  2022 Remembrance Sunday Service was held at Southport Cenotaph and was organised by both the Royal British Legion and Sefton Council. The service ran slightly different to previous years with the precession of the Armed Forces and other in the procession like the band all came from the same direction, with only the Civic Party coming in from the Town Hall. This simple change at the start proved to be very effective. Sadly, 2 drones did course some annoyance  at the start of proceedings, despite the requests not to fly any, due to what had happened in Liverpool last year. Other than that, the event passed extremely well. attendance was about average and weather was just right for the event. Just as with Formby, we wanted to point out that Southport not only remembered those who came from Southport, who have died in conflict, but they also marked the sacrifices of the Polish Airmen, who had died defending our Region. They had been based for a large section of World War 2 at RAF Woodvale, and at RNAS Burscough, also known as HMS Ringtail. The pilots who had lost their live in that war were remembered by the Town, with locals put candles on the plaque, over the run up to Remembrance Day. It you want to locate the Memorial to the Airmen, it is located in the Lord Street War Memorial Gardens, on the Town Hall side.
