Royal Tree presentation and planting in Maghull

ON 30 November 2022, a very cold Bobby's Wood, or otherwise known as Woodend, on the junction of Liverpool Road South and of the Northway, both the Deputy Lieutenant, His Honour John Roberts and The Lord Lieutenant, Mark FW Blundell Esquire, joined the Friends of Maghull and District (FOMD CIC) Dr Frank Sharp to take part in an historic Tree Planting. the tree in question was a rowan tree, that had been 1 of the 350 native trees that formed part of the huge Queen's Green Canopy Platinum Jubilee art installation at Buckingham Palace, known as the:- 'Tree of Trees.'

Joining in this tree planting to help both climate action and improve our environment where Deputy Mayor of Maghull - Ken Hughes and his consort. Plus the Clerk to the Lieutenancy, Ben Greenaway (Mersey Forest), Derek Stevens (MTC Amenities Manager), Cllr Patrick Mc Kinley (MTC Leader), along with members of Friends of Maghull and District:- Cllr Dr Frank Sharp, Diane Harvey, Ian Porter. Not forgetting over 60 children, who came along from the neighbouring:- Bumbles Nursery, along with pupils from both:- Hudson Maghull and St George's Primary School, Maghull.

Sadly the weather was not the most accommodating, but this was a special event, that was made even more special by the arrive, unbeknownst to the children, of Father Christmas (Rotary) who came bearing gifts for their tree planting support at their respective Schools.

We are told that around 15,000 trees have been planted recently by the community of Maghull, through the help of both Friends of Maghull and District (FOMD CIC). This is why they had been awarded the prestigious Royal tree in recognition of this effort.

Begore we forget, we have been asked to say a big thank you from the Town Council to Morrisons, for providing lots of goodies including:- Haribo, chocolate oranges, crisps, and drink cartons, that went into Father Christmas' collective bags for the return journey.

Did you know that a Rowan is an elegant tree with delicate green leaves bearing clusters of creamy white flowers in spring and brilliant red berries in autumn. In Celtic mythology it's known as the Tree of Life and symbolises courage, wisdom and protection. Trees like these not only look nice, but also draw down carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere, and can offset an estimated annual net carbon storage of around 4.67 tons/acre of CO2, helping combat current emission levels.
