Liverpool Celebrates Chinese New Year 2023

LIVERPOOL hopped into a new Chinese New Year in style for the Year of The Water Rabbit, or the Chinese year 4721.  Chinese people believe that what you do at the beginning of a new year will affect your luck in the coming year. The events on Sunday, 22 January 2023. the actual start of the Chinese New Year, Liverpool pulled out all the stops. Probably just as well as it is predicted that this year is a:- "year of hope" and with all that is happening, we might need it?

As it is Europe's oldest Chinese community you are always expecting a spectacular sight and you would not have been disappointed. This years free celebrations where held all around Liverpool's Chinatown, located within Liverpool City Centre, next to the largest Chinese Imperial Arch outside of China. The events included:- the traditional Dragon, Lion, and Unicorn Parades, firecracker displays, family workshops, Tai Chi demonstrations, live music performances, a fairground as well as food and craft stalls. Finishing off the events was a fantastic fire display by Bring the Fire Project.

We have lots more photos within this edition on the following pages... We 'hope' you enjoy them...

These are some photos and video footage we took at this years celebrations. If you have not celebrated Chinese New Year before, you must go to Liverpool. No other location in Europe does it better! We will leave you with the words:- "Xin nian kuai le" or 恭喜发财

Did you know that the Year of the Rabbit is also refereed to as the year of the Hare in some Western cultures?
