TV Presenter and Author Dilly Carter joins up with charity Adoption UK

DILLY Carter, Presenter on the hit BBC show:- 'Sort Your Life Out,' has now become an Ambassador for Adoption UK. Adoption UK is the leading charity supporting adoptees with challenges they face because of traumatic experiences in their early childhoods. Dilly said:- "As an adoptee myself, I'm really excited about working with Adoption UK to help young adoptees live bravely and reach their potential."

Adopted at age 3 from a Sri Lankan orphanage, Dilly grew up with a strong sense of her own identity, but largely unsupported in finding her place in the world. She describes her relationship with her English Mum and Sri Lankan Dad as ."..very functional, but I was never short of love. My parents were working so hard to give me a lovely life, but we didn't spend a lot of time together." She did not have any professional help to understand and process her life story until she was an adult.

She got the bug for organising at a young age. She was tidying the shelves at her local supermarket aged:- 9, arranging private homes in her late teens and then helping her Mother, who suffers from bipolar disorder, sort out her:- 'living chaos' at home.

Dilly is now on our screens in:- 'Sort Your Life Out,' a programme that helps people who have become overwhelmed by family life to take back some control at home. Dilly is also the Author of 2 books:- 'Change Your Space' and 'Create Space' with a fresh take on the link between mental wellbeing and de cluttering.

Dilly will be helping Adoption UK to raise awareness of modern adoption, and the challenges many adopted people face. She will campaign with the charity for better support for adopted children and young people, including in School and managing the transition to adulthood, and ensuring adult adoptees can get the help they need with tracing records, seeking birth family and getting therapeutic support.

CEO of Adoption UK Emily Frith said:- "We're thrilled Dilly's joining the Adoption UK family. Like most adoptees she had a tough start in life but she has shown remarkable resilience. She's a great role model and mentor, but not just that; she's keen to roll her sleeves up and help campaign for the support that all adopted people need and deserve."

Burscough's Linnets pitch in to support SSAFA

THE simplest ideas are often the most effective. Take Lancashire team Burscough Football Club, known as the Linnets, which plays in the Premier Division of the North West Counties League. It has, at its Community Stadium Ground, stepped up to support SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity with a simple sign attached to railings.

Now, anyone entering the ground can learn more about SSAFA, the UK's oldest tri-service charity, how it helps veterans, serving personnel, and their families, and how to make contact to get support, volunteer, or donate.

Paul Gilchrist, the owner and Chairman of Burscough FC, said:- "The club is very pleased to be able to support SSAFA and the wider service community, and we have extended an open invitation to SSAFA and the other service charities to make use of the club facilities as a meeting point where serving members, veterans and their families can meet in a safe environment."

Wayne Kitney, Chairman of SSAFA's Merseyside Branch, added:- "SSAFA in the North West is delighted at the support shown to us and more importantly, the Armed Forces community, by Burscough FC. The friendly rivalry on the pitch and in the grounds between players and fans of the home team and visiting teams; whether military or not; will be put to 1 side for a moment when they pass the sign, and if just 1 person who needs SSAFA's support picks up the phone or goes on to the website, then it'll have been worth it."

SSAFA was founded in 1885 and has helped countless thousands of the Armed Forces community over the last 138 years, with more than 66,000 supported in 2021 alone, and it does this through the generosity of the public donating time as a volunteer or with a financial donation.

To donate, volunteer, or access support in the North West of England, call:- 02045669146, or email:- ENW.Region@SSAFA.Org.UK.
