Worst workplace habits revealed

THE funniest working from home 'icks' have been revealed after a booming TikTok trend has seen thousands of workers taking to the platform to share their hilarious bugbears. Starting meetings early and wearing formal office wear while working from home are among the best tongue in cheek icks to have been cited by impassioned social media users.

According to research carried out online retailer OnBuy, the top 5 'corporate icks' for hybrid workers are:-

1. Starting meetings early… Often resulting in the dreaded:- 'awkward chit chat' before everyone else joins.

2. Calling out of the blue...  When coworkers call without warning rather than messaging to agree to a call 1st.

3. Clashing or late meetings... Booking meetings at any time after 4pm (no 1 needs a call that late!) or despite the shared calendar showing people are busy at that time.

4. Office wear at home... Wearing formal office wear, like shirts, on video calls while working from home, leaving many begging the question, why bother?!

5. Work jargon... The use of old fashioned corporate phrases like:- 'we don't need to reinvent the wheel' when discussing business.

Emily Seals, Marketing Manager at OnBuy, said:- "Workers airing their 'corporate icks' have taken TikTok by storm in recent weeks. We posted a video about 1 of the big ones; starting meetings early; and got more traction than any other post to date! You can see the TikTok."

Parents have just 23 minutes quality time a day with their children

PARENTS spend an average of just 23 minutes quality time a day with their children, according to new national research. At a time when family life is under the microscope like never before, even more shocking is that 1 in 10 parents spend less than 15 minutes of quality time with their children daily, according to the study by the UK's leading bathing and washing brand, Baylis and Harding.

77% of parents feel huge guilt about the lack of time they spend with their little ones and say wish they had more family time. But it is clear from the research that busy working lives and a difficult to manage work life balance is largely behind the lack of time available to spend with their children for many parents.

The Baylis and Harding research reveals that the biggest barriers to bonding with kids for parents are working during the day (48%) and working late (39%).

The era of the smartphone has also wreaked havoc with family time. Parents admit that other distractions, including:- phone calls and text messages (32%), get in the way. And for kids, the biggest barriers to bonding time with their parents are:- social media (31%) and TV (30%).

The poll of 2,000 parents shows that 25% feel that bath time is the best opportunity to bond with their children, with a whopping 95% using this important time to talk to their children about their day.

Baylis and Harding is now encouraging more parents to use bath time to create those all-important bonding moments, with the launch of its paediatrician and midwife-approved Goodness Kids collection.

Baylis and Harding Co-Founder, Tania Slater, said:- "With our busy everyday lives, parents are finding it harder than ever to spend 1 on 1 time with their children. Some 93% of parents saying they look forward to bath time with their children, making it 1 of the most enjoyable and important times of their day. We want families to really cherish their bath time routines and make the most of the hugely valuable bonding time it offers."
