Damien Moore MP welcomes news that 22,400 pensioners in Southport are benefitting from the biggest ever increase in the Basic State Pension this month

MEMBER of Parliament for Southport, Damien Moore, has welcomed the news that 22,400 pensioners in Southport are receiving a 10.1% increase in their Basic State Pension from this month, as the Government protects local pensioners from the effect of rising prices.

This is the biggest ever cash increase in the state pension and will automatically be applied to pensioners' payments, demonstrating the Conservative Government's manifesto commitment to maintain the Triple Lock and support pensioners in the face of rising prices and high inflation.

In addition to this uprating, pensioners will benefit from another £300 Pensioner Cost of Living Payment this winter, continuing the Conservative Government's direct support for those groups most vulnerable to the effects of high inflation caused by Putin's illegal war in Ukraine.

This is helping to deliver on Prime Minister Rishi Sunak's 5 priorities to halve inflation, grow the economy, reduce debt, cut waiting lists, and stop the boats.

Damien Moore, Member of Parliament for Southport, said:- "I realise how difficult things have been for many pensioners in Southport recently, as they have been directly affected by high inflation as a result of Putin's illegal war in Ukraine. I believe it is vital that we protect their incomes from these pressures, and so last year was proud to support maintaining our manifesto commitment to keep the Triple Lock and ensure that Southport's pensioners continue to have the support they need. From this month, 22,400 pensioners in Southport will receive the Conservative Government's 10.1 per cent increase in the Basic State Pension, the latest in a wealth of support the Government has provided since the Covid pandemic 1st struck. If any pensioners in Southport are struggling to access the support available to them, please get in touch with my office, and we will do everything we can to help."

Minister for Pensions, Laura Trott MP, said:- "The effect of rising prices has been particularly challenging for the most vulnerable pensioners many of whom live on fixed incomes. That is why the Conservative Government has delivered on our commitment to protect the Triple Lock, giving 12.5 million pensioners an inflationary increase in their pension payments of 10.1 percent from April. Protecting pensioners' incomes from the effects of rising prices is a central part of our Conservative commitment to supporting the most vulnerable as we deliver on the Prime Minister's five priorities."
