It's time to Liberate Liverpool!

A political movement that has swept the City of Liverpool over the last 3 months is proud to announce that they have 30 independent candidates standing under their banner in the Local Elections for Liverpool, this May. The movement says it is a campaigning against the fraud and corruption ingrained into the party political system of the country, starting from the bottom up, where they can make an immediate change in local politics.

The movement has gained momentum as people are fed up with the same old political parties and their lack of transparency and accountability. The movement is made up of ordinary people from all walks of life, determined to make a difference and bring about real change in their communities and has more than 5,000 members signed up across the City.

One of the founding members of the movement Lawrence Kenwright said:- "We are excited to announce our 30 candidates standing in the Local Elections for Liverpool. In 3 short months we've been overwhelmed with the support, spurred on by the cries of hope in our communities. We had more than 60 people come forward from across Liverpool, wishing to represent their ward and to fly the flag of anti fraud and anti corruption under our banner, however our rigorous selection process meant not all were successful. We are proud of our candidates and the work they have done so far, and we are confident that they will represent the people of Liverpool with honesty and integrity."

Sean Weaver, who is standing in the City Centre South Ward said:- "Our candidates are a diverse group of people, made up of many faiths and races from all walks of life. Charity workers, Teachers, single mums and single dads, taxi drivers, rail workers, people at the beating heart of their communities who really understand what life is like in Liverpool, but also each with their own remarkable skill set and passion for our brilliant City. We are all deeply committed to bringing about real change in our communities, and we believe that this is the 1st step in achieving that."

The movement is campaigning on a platform of accountability, and they are committed to fighting against the fraud and corruption that has become ingrained in the local political system. They believe that their message is resonating with people across the City, and they are committed to working hard to make a difference. The organisation describes their movement as a broad church, with many members from all walks of life and people of all races and religions.

Chair of the steering committee of the Liberate Liverpool movement, Susie Stalsberg who is standing in the Penny Lane ward said:- "Our movement represents a new way of doing politics. We are not beholden to any special interests, and we are not afraid to take on the establishment. We are committed to bringing about real change, and we believe that we can make a real difference in Liverpool. We are also pleased to be working alongside other parties and independents to ensure the City has the best chance of a united anti-fraud, anti-corruption front providing support to some of their candidates. We just want the best for our City"

One of the candidates, Rosey Edwards who is standing in the County Ward, said:- "I'm proud to be standing for our movement in these local elections. I believe that we can make a real difference in our communities, and I am committed to fighting against the fraud and corruption that has become so prevalent in our political system. I urge all Liverpool residents to support us, and together, we can bring about real change."

The movement feel they have already made a significant impact in Liverpool, igniting a conversation on the City's politics on such a scale, width and depth that has never been seen before. They are determined to continue their work and bring about real change to the City. They believe that their message is resonating with people across the City, and they are committed to working hard to make a difference before and after the election.

Dobbies' Southport store teams up with RSPB to help save the house sparrow population

THE UK's leading garden centre, Dobbies, has teamed up with the UK's largest nature conservation charity, the RSPB, to educate its customers in Southport on the declining house sparrow population this May and encourage them to do their part to welcome this bird species into their gardens.

During the month of May, RSPB volunteers will be raising awareness and collect donations across a number of Dobbies' stores while offering the opportunity to sign up to become an RSPB member.

Since the RSPB's Big Garden Birdwatch began in 1979, encouraging people to count birds for an hour in January, the house sparrow's population has gone from an average of 10 visitors per garden to only about four in 2022. Although house sparrows topped the Big Garden Birdwatch for the 19th year in a row in 2022, their population has declined so drastically that they are now on the UK Red List for birds, and any further declines would be disastrous.

As part of this campaign, Dobbies' Southport store will host a Little Seedlings Club workshop on:- Sunday, 7 May 2023. This entertaining and informative workshop is suitable for kids aged:- 4 to 10 years old. Children will learn about the official Red List and the house sparrow, as well as some helpful tips on how to encourage more house sparrows into their gardens.

Dobbies' Community and CSR Communications Executive, Chloe Bell, explained:- "Our Little Seedlings Club attendees are the next generation of gardening enthusiasts and this awareness workshop with RSPB at our Southport store is extremely important when it comes to helping rescue the house sparrow. I have fond memories as a child listening to the house sparrows as I watched them fly about the garden and we want the younger generation to experience this too. You can help these birds by planting trees, shrubs and flowers in the garden, a place for the house sparrow to take shelter, forage for insects to feed their chicks, and ultimately help increase the population."

Adrian Thomas, the RSPB's wildlife gardening expert, said:- "We are really looking forward to working with Dobbies to spread the word about these wonderful garden birds, and how people can help them. They're great fun for kids to learn about too; house sparrows are delightfully sociable and chattery and they really benefit when we give them the food, water, and home they need. It shows how little actions can really make a difference to our local wildlife."

Dobbies' latest podcast with Adrian Thomas talks about the house sparrow, where podcast host, ITV This Morning's Daisy Payne, asks how we can create a welcoming environment in our gardens to help increase population numbers.

Advance booking is required to secure a free spot at Dobbies' May Little Seedlings Club session at its Southport store.

Customers looking to encourage house sparrows to visit their garden can pick up RSPB branded supplies from their nearest Dobbies' store. Spotlight products for May include:- Medium Easy clean Seed Feeders, Sunflower Hearts, High Energy Fat Bals, Table Seed Mix, Suet Sprinkles and highly nutritious Mealworms.

If you live rurally and can't take part in the in store workshops, there are downloadable resources, at:- Doobies.Com you can access at home.   For more information on RSPB and how to become a member, visit:- RSPB.Org.UK.
