LGA says it is:- "Vitally important Voter ID is rigorously reviewed"
FOLLOWING the 2023 Local
Elections in England, that were held on:- Thursday, 4 May 2023, the Local
Government Association issued a comment about the voter ID requirements.
Cllr Kevin Bentley, Chairman of the Local Government Association's People and
Places Board said, on the day after (5 May 2023) that:- "Councils have
delivered these Local Elections with their usual efficiency. With ⅔ of the
country going to the polls yesterday and Counts ongoing in many areas, it is too
early to properly analyse how new voter ID requirements have gone. Councils will
be reporting into the Electoral Commission's review of the process in the coming
days and weeks. It is vitally important that the Government works with Councils,
the Electoral Commission and all those involved in elections to rigorously and
transparently evaluate the implementation of voter ID at the elections, to
ensure lessons are learned ahead of future elections."
