Eurovision - The Blue and Yellow Submarine Parade
Photos by Patrick Trollope.

ON Friday, 5 May 2023, the Eurovision action started with the amazing Blue and Yellow Submarine Parade. Yong and old got to see this colourful parade as it made its way through the streets of Liverpool City Centre, starting and ending at Williamson Square. The event was produced by Liverpool's Invisible Wind Factory in partnership with The Kazimier

The story was that a submarine research vessel is on a mission to discover an underwater life of happiness, making friends in a world where everyone lives in unity. The colours used within the parade reflected the unity of Liverpool and Ukraine, the global Eurovision community and the unity it brings, thus symbolising the partnership and friendship that both Eurovision and the EuroFestival bring.

Music was played from the submarine, that rose and sank along the way, as it was flanked by a new magical world called Aquatopia. Music was inspired by the United By Music theme and symbolising partnership and community, hundreds of performers, musicians and community groups will be involved including LGBTQ+ groups, dance companies, asylum seekers as well as local organisations such as:- Katumba and Movema.

Not only that, but there was even more significant Ukrainian involvement with this event, as the submarine doubled as a stage for a newly formed band made up of star vocalist Sofia Pavlichenko (front woman of Freedom Jazz), Bozhena Hamar (Ukrainian ethnic flute virtuoso) and Liverpool's Dogshow brothers Sam and Laurie Crombie performing euro classics in an ethno-Ukraine techno mash up.

As you can see the event featured many interesting things to catch they eyes, such as:- a glitter ball puffer fish, a drumming octopus, a crew of skating jellyfish, voyaguing Sea Queens, plus many more creatures of the sea...

This free event was a huge success and a fantastic start to the celebrations that officially started on the Sunday Night..
