Southport's new Occulo Lounge

THE Occulo Lounge, has opened on Lord Street and Nevill Street, in Southport, offering a unique atmosphere for customers to enjoy both food and drinks. This venue is both family-friendly and dog-friendly, and even has board games to keep you occupied.

Bristol based Loungers UK Ltd have invested £1 million to the project, and it shows. Looking at it now, it is hard to think that the building was a Waterstones bookshop, only a few months back. The Grade 2 listed building in which the new Southport venue resides, was constructed for the National Provincial Bank, between:- 1925 and 1927. Throughout the reincarnation Loungers PLC have tried to:- "retain as much of the historic fabric within this listed building as possible." The building is now an amazing mix of old and new construction, with some unusual decorations added to the mix. This visual blend really makes for a colourful and interesting setting for you to relax in.

It's arrival has created around 30 new jobs for the local economy and is hoped to be part of a new revival for the seaside town's tourism, entertainment and leisure industry. The venue will soon be offering entertainment, as well as a few local community orientated events. Currently the venue has picked as the Southport Offshore Lifeboat Trust (Southport Lifeboat) as the venue's charity, and on the opening night, the venue treated them to a fantastic dinner and drinks. Plus, they are donating some of the money they get in from some food sales.

Talking about food, the venue offers a wide choice of foods, including:- kids' menus, a gluten free and vegan menu. Plus, you do not have to be eating to go in, as you can get both soft and alcoholic drinks only as well.

The Lounge has also tried to get as many local businesses involved by buying from local businesses when possible, and they even have a community board inside to help small businesses and local events to promote themselves.

It is worth adding that the establishment does have access for disabled customers via a ramp, that can be brought out to those wanting to come in.

Did you know? The building that is now the Occulo Lounge was designed by:- Palmer and Holden, in association with both:- Finchett, Lancaster and Archer of London. More information about the building can be found on the Historic England website.
