Southport Armed Forces Day 2023

SOUTHPORT Armed Forces Day 2023 was held on Sunday, 25 June 2023, outside Southport Town Hall, on Lord Street. The event started well, with a Drumhead Service, followed by a Parade. Then live entertainment started and the public got to take a look at a wide range of activities and exhibits, from military vehicles, to paint balling. Sadly, soon after the heavens opened and rain lashed down, leading to an early finish, but despite the rain, this was an extremely successful event.

For us, we also had the privilege of meeting not 1 of the 6 remaining D-Day veterans, but 2 of them, both from Southport; the oldest being a 102 year old, the other was not that far off and was in his late 90's.

If you do not know what Armed Forces Day is, it is an annual event that celebrates the contributions of the UK's Armed Forces, both at home and abroad. The national events, held throughout the country, do not a promotion of war, or serve as a remembrance day event, and shouldn't to be confused with Remembrance Sunday. The events held on this day allow the general public to show their support for the service of men and women who are in the British Armed Forces, both past and present, along with their families.

This year also marked the contributions of the Windrush Generation to the UK's Armed Forces and wider society...

You can locate lots more photos taken at this event on the next 7 pages.  Well done to all who helped plan this event and all those who took part.
