Hugh Baird College recognised with LGBT+ Award for creating a safe and supportive environment

HUGH Baird College and University Centre are proud to announce that they have been awarded the full Rainbow Flag Award in recognition of their LGBT+ inclusion work.

The Rainbow Flag Award is a national quality assurance framework for educational providers. The award focuses on positive LGBT+ inclusion and visibility.

To receive the award, the College was required to provide evidence of its work in 6 crucial areas:- skilled teacher, supportive parents and governors, effective policies, an inclusive curriculum, pastoral support, and student's voice.

Recent examples of the College's LGBT+ inclusion efforts include:- the addition of LGBT+ awareness sessions, the celebration of LGBT+ events and the provision of pastoral care for LGBT+ students through the College's student support team.

Janine Hopewell, Health and Wellbeing Co-Ordinator said:-"We are truly humbled to have attained the Rainbow Flag Award through The Proud Trust. The journey has helped our College in creating a dynamic environment that celebrates LGBT+ inclusion and visibility. However, our work continues as we strive to maintain a safe and happy environment for everyone who works and studies at Hugh Baird College."

A Hugh Baird College student commented:- "As an LGBT+ student I feel that the College is doing everything to ensure we feel celebrated, and safe to be ourselves."

How The Grinch Stole Summer at Southport Pleasureland

ICONIC Merseyside amusement park Southport Pleasureland has announced that:- 'The Grinch' will be visiting the park once again this weekend, adding to its jam-packed programme of summer entertainment.

Whilst enjoying the awe-inspiring array of rides and attractions on offer at Southport Pleasureland, families visiting on the:- 8 July 2023 will be able to spot the infamous character from the much loved children's story tiptoeing around the grounds of the park.

In addition to witnessing the mischievous antics the cranky creature gets up to as he gallivants about, visitors will have the chance to snap a photo with 'The Grinch' while he enjoys his summer vacation in Southport.

Norman Wallis, CEO of Southport Pleasureland comments:- "After proving hugely popular with families during his last visit and making many happy memories at the park, The Grinch is bubbling with excitement to pack his bags and return to Southport for his summer holiday. Rumour even has it that plans are afoot for The Grinch to come back to his favourite amusement park for some magical, festive fun at Christmas!"
