The 99th Southport Flower Show 2023 - Part 3

THE 99th Southport Flower Show took place from:- 17 August 2023 to  20 August 2023, on Victoria Park, in Southport, Merseyside. This is our final part of our 3 part coverage of this amazing annual horticultural event.

After the uncertainty of recent years, the familiar routine of the annual Flower Show was welcome. We were not looking, perhaps, for great innovations, but the presence of well known and well liked exhibits reassuringly there they were; row upon row of beautiful blooms, imaginative gardens and displays, and much else. Their was however, still the element of surprise within the exhibits themselves. There were many original and fantastic ideas, and presentations throughout. So too, with the events and myriad stalls, demonstrations and entertainments. Perhaps, there was a slight recollection of absence friends. But overall there was much on offer.

Mother Nature played ball as the weather was mainly fair, so those attending had the opportunity to explore the outdoor displays leaving the main exhibition tents less crowded.

On one of the days we were accompanied by a well behaved puppy in training to be a guide dog for the blind, so our attention focused a little on how people with various disabilities might be experiencing the show. During our conversations with these people we heard of satisfaction with the layout and provision for them, throughout the grounds. One comment however was that in places progress for wheelchairs might have been improved by duckboards over wet grass areas, but even in this case their was an acceptance that this could have presented other difficulties.

There seemed also to be an acknowledgement that such help that might be required would be made available if required.

This show was a welcome and enjoyable spell, during challenging times.
