Southport Classic and Speed 2023

OVER Saturday, 16 September 2023 and Sunday,. 17 September 2023, both the:- 'Southport Classic and Speed' was held on  Victoria Park and the:- 'Ocean Sprint Revival' was held on the Coast Road. This fantastic 2 day event was put on, on the back of the previous 2 years events, of 2022 and 2021, that were a great success. Once again the objective of this event was to celebrate our motoring and motor sport heritage of the area. Sadly, as with other events recently in Southport, the weather was not very helpful, leading to less cars being able to exhibit, due to the extremely boggy Victoria Park. But what was on offer really did cover the 3 centuries of motoring; from:- veteran, vintage, historic, racing, and modern classics.

The  'Ocean Sprint Revival' was also a celebration of  the 60th Anniversary of the last Speed Trial, held along both the:- The Esplanade and Marine Drive, in 1963. It is hoped that next year more cars will be able to take part in what was a very interesting spectical.

On Sunday the event finished with a parade though the Town Centre, with around 250 cars taking part. This mostly went to plan, expect for 1 of the vintage cars deciding to break down in front of the Mayor of Sefton, on Lord Street, across the road from Southport's Town Hall, leading to quite a few amusing comments, and lots of people wanting selfies, from the passing public, with the stunning broken down motor.

You can see more photos and video clips from the show on the next 9 pages within this edition.

Well done to all who took part and also to Aintree Circuit Club who put on this event.  Let us know your thoughts about this event on our Mersey Reporter, Newsbites Posting...
