Photos by Archery GB

SINCE it began, Start Archery Week, which this year will takes place over:- 4 May to 12 May, has introduced over 70,000 people to archery thanks to archery clubs and activity providers taking part in this nationwide week dedicated to welcoming more people to the sport.

Now in its 12th year, with Kinetic and Avalon Archery on board as partners for 2024, it will see archery clubs across the country open their doors to potential archers, giving people of all ages and abilities the chance to try archery for the first time. There will also be opportunity for participants and volunteers to win a host of prizes from Kinetic and Avalon Archery.

One of the most accessible sports around, it's fun and inclusive and perfect for anyone wanting to try something new, either on their own or with family and friends. Whether you're a complete novice or have never thought about picking up a bow and arrow before, this is a perfect chance to give it a go. It's also the ideal opportunity to discover the joy of this inclusive sport ahead of the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Archery clubs across the country are inviting adults and children alike to take part throughout Start Archery Week. Between Saturday 4 to Sunday 12 May, clubs will be hosting their very own events, inviting locals from nearby areas to give archery a shot.

Participants will not only be able to have a go at the sport, but they will also be able to spend time with coaches who will guide them through the basics, ensuring a safe and enjoyable introduction to archery. In addition, visitors will be able to sign up for a beginner's course to kickstart their archery journey.

"For me archery offers both physical and mental benefits; there's no other sport quite like it. You are so focused on what your body is doing that it's like meditation. Start Archery Week offers a great opportunity for people to have a go and appreciate how accessible the sport is; for everyone. It would be great to see more people taking up the sport and playing it regularly and getting to love it like I do."
says Jamie Harris, member of the Archery GB Paralympic Squad, who took up the sport at 14 years old.

Nathan Macqueen, who is also a member of the Archery GB Paralympic Squad and hoping to retain his world number 1 spot this year, started archery as a child. He says:- "Originally archery was something my Dad and I used to do to spend time with each other, then I took up the sport again after I had a motorcycle accident. Archery is a great social sport that anyone can enjoy with a level playing field. It offers great mental health benefits too; as you focus on shooting the arrows it gives you a break from reality."

This year's events are shining a light on the mental health benefits of archery and how the sport can help people's minds as well as their bodies. It can support increased mindfulness, enhance mental and emotional wellbeing, reduce stress and boost confidence as well as develop strength and fitness.

If you attend a Start Archery Week event and sign up to the Start Archery newsletter then you'll be in with a chance to win a pair of tickets to watch archery at the Olympic or Paralympic Games in Paris this summer. Simply share your email when completing the participant form at your event to be in with a chance!

The Sovini Group raises £19,000 for Zoe's Place at annual Golf Day

THE Sovini Group Golf Day brought together 80 golfers from the housing and commercial sector at Childwall Golf Club to compete in the sold out event, which was hosted by local comedian Willie Millar.

The guests and 20 sponsors in attendance collectively raised £19,000 for Zoe's Place Cycle India Challenge.

Zoe's Place cares for babies and young children with life limiting, life threatening or complex conditions. Their hospice in Liverpool has been on the same site for the last 28 years, but they now need to raise enough capital to ensure that their new hospice can facilitate their current services, providing the home away from home environment that the babies and families deserve.

During the event, players had the opportunity to win a variety of prizes kindly donated by local companies and were also able to bid on auction items, including Peter Kay tickets and Liverpool Football Club signed shirts, to raise valuable funds.

Gina Earnshaw from the Zoe's Place said:- "We're delighted to be partnering with The Sovini Group so we can collectively raise funds to secure a new hospice and future home in Liverpool for our children and their families."

The Sovini Group's annual golf day will focus on raising money for the Cycle India challenge in aid of Zoe's Place. A team of 7 colleagues will be pedalling 450 km through majestic Rajasthan, in aid of this great cause.

Gina added:- "It's our aspiration to raise enough capital to ensure that our new hospice can facilitate our current services, providing the home away from home environment that our babies and families deserve. We are so grateful for everyone who generously donated at today's golf day, and we'll look forward to more partnership opportunities with The Sovini Group in future."

The Sovini Group CEO Roy Williams said:- "Our annual golf day is a great opportunity to raise valuable funds for Zoe's Place, a very worthy local cause and 1 close to our hearts. I would like to thank our sponsors and guests who helped to make this event such a success, and for making a difference to the children and their families, as we strive to create opportunities and change lives."
