Liverpool Marks the 80th Anniversary of D-Day

ON 5 June 2024, the City of Liverpool held its 1st 80th Anniversary D-Day Service, with a service and laying wreath outside St Georges Hall, within St John's Gardens, with  a Royal Navy Veteran, who was at the D-Day Landings. You can see the video of that and a few photos by Paul Frost of this event along with the footage of the Lighting of the Beacons, at St Nicholas, Liverpool Parish Church. The Beacon event also took place across Europe marking the End of the International Events for D-Day 80. Again we have video of this event taken by Paul Frost on the following page, along with more photographs taken by our Editor, Patrick Trollope, from Sunday's  Parade and Drum Head Service.

 

On the Sunday, 9 June 2024, the UK City of Liverpool held its final 80th Anniversary D-Day event, a large Parade and Drum Head Service. The Parade consisted of 2 large contingents of Veterans, each led by a band. The Parade Muster was held on Copperas Hill, next to the Liverpool Adelphi Hotel. Following the National Anthem being played they set off at around 1:35 pm, heading from the start point on Copperas Hill, marching through Liverpool City Center, down:- Ranelagh Street, Hanover Street, Paradise Street, then through the Bus Station next to the former Merseyside Police HQ, and onto Strand Street. The Parade then terminated at the Royal Albert Dock where a drumhead service was held on the steps of the Martin Luther King Jf Building {formerly the Granada TV News building).  This event was also attended by the Joe Carter.

* Royal Tank Regiment Assc (Armoured Division)

* Royal Corps of Transport (now The Royal Logistics Corps) Assc.

* 208 Field Hospital, RAMC, QARANC Associations.

* Lancashire Fusiliers, Royal Regiment of Fusiliers Assc.

* Blue Light Services (Police, Fire, Ambulance)

Contingent 2...

* Massed Pipes and Drums (60 Plus)

* Contingent Standards.

* Irish Guards Regimental Assc and Footguards Assc, (Household Div)

* Liverpool Scottish Regt Assc (Scots Div)

* The Parachute Regimental Assc. (Airborne Div)

* Royal Green Jackets Regimental Association and Rifles Association
(Light Div)

* Royal Irish Rangers (Royal Irish) Regimental Assc.

* Royal Air Force Assc.

The other participants also included:- St John Ambulance, along with NWAS, Merseyside Police, and Merseyside Fire and Rescue.
