Botanic Gardens Family Fun Day 2024

THIS year's Botanic Gardens Family Fun Day, was held on:- Sunday, 16 June 2024. This popular free family event, at the Botanic Gardens, in Churchtown, once again attracted hundreds of visitors to the Park for Father's Day.

This years event was sponsored by Checkers of Churchtown and was biggest yet, with over 50 attractions for people of all ages to enjoy.

Botanic Gardens Family Fun Day Organiser Jess Rickers said:- "This year's event was fantastic. We had good weather and far more attractions than we have ever had before. The park was full of people enjoying themselves. It was also fantastic to see so many people making donations that will support the Botanic Gardens Community Association to continue making this park look so good. It was brilliant to see David and Ann Cobham, who lead the volunteers, being awarded the Sefton Community Impact Award at the Grand Pride Of Sefton Awards recently for all the work they do. This year was we not only have the Golborne Brass Band playing live music, but we also had 3 uperb local live singers adding to this years atmosphere. That is not forgetting The Atkinson Wellbeing Choir. People also had the opportunity to enjoy performances by talented youngsters from 6 local Dance Schools. We also offered families:- fairground rides, trampolines, inflatables, farm animals, dance performances, giant bubbles, stalls, donkey rides, birds of prey, and much more. We even had Allday's Farm return with a mobile farm, that let everone get up close and personal with their beautiful animals. The fun for the kids also included our popular bubbleologists from Paris Bubbles, who made lots of huge bubbles throughout the day, and was once again a very popular attraction. Children and parents also found lots of stalls offering hair braiding, glitter tattoos, and more. This included Hickory's Smokehouse (Southport) who handed out out free popcorn throughout the day. Southport Saviours also attened offering demonstrations on how to save someone's life with a defibrillator. For adults we also had lots of stalls offering floral delights, craft stalls, novelty stalls, and charity stalls, along with food stalls and more. This years event had a really good local community atmosphere to it. It was also pleasing to see visitors to the p[ark also supporting the many local independent restaurants, cafes, bars, shops, located right next to the beautiful park in the picture postcard Churchtown Village.  This was our 3rd Family Fun Day and we are grateful for the massive support we have had from local people, volunteers and local businesses including:- Checkers of Churchtown, our headline sponsor this year. I would like to thank everyone who attened and all those who helped put the show on. Our local Councillors and Green Sefton have also been hugely supportive too. Without your support we could not have put on this fantastic family event."

Checkers of Churchtown Managing Director Andrew Wareham said:- "We are 1 of the longest established family-run businesses in Southport. We have always been keen to do what we can to support local community events in Southport where we can. When event organiser Jess Rickers approached us to say that the Botanic Gardens Family Fun Day needed a sponsor, we were delighted to have supported it this year. The Botanic Gardens is a beautiful, historic park that has been enjoyed by many generations of local families, and we want to see it there to be visited for generations to come."
