Liverpool artist Jazz Staon on a mission to help Brits appreciate their appliances

ELECTRICAL retailer, AO has launched its Appliance Appreciation Society with Liverpool based mural artist, Jazz Stan. Jazz has joined AO's Appliance Appreciation Society to transform people's appliances by elevating them with a bespoke piece of her art designed and created by her.

As part of the Appliance Appreciation Society, using her fine art technique, Jazz has created a bold and engaging piece of work for a limited number of AO customers. 50 lucky art lovers are in with a chance of being gifted an official Jazz Stan print to display on their own appliance at home.

Inspiration for Jazz's piece of art comes after research commissioned by electrical retailer, AO, found that:- 1 in 5 Brits confess they use their fridge as a notice board to keep them on track for the week, with meal planning and shopping lists. A further 13% of parents admitted that the fridge is slowly becoming an art gallery where they display their children's art even if they don't think it's the greatest masterpiece.

Jazz Stan, artist, and member of the AO Appliance Appreciation Society said:- "Being a part of AO's Appliance Appreciation Society has been incredible. As a busy mum and artist, I have certainly neglected my appliances in the past. So, what better way to show your appliance some love than adding a piece of artwork to brighten it up. I love creating bold and colourful pieces and I have really enjoyed working with AO to help bring colour into people's homes. I hope it will help encourage more Brits to appreciate their appliances too."

The Appliance Appreciation Society aims to combat the nation's love hate relationship they have with their appliances. Joining Jazz in the society is psychologist Emma Kenny and content Creator, Daisy Woods, who all have a vital role to play to by encouraging Brits show some love to their appliances.

Edge Hill student chases dream of Paris 2024 Olympics

AN Edge Hill University student is dreaming of fulfilling an Olympic dream after securing a spot for a qualifying event for Paris 2024.

Sprinter Olivia Fowler, who is studying Professional Policing, at the University, will go head to head with other 100 metres hopefuls at the UK Athletics Championships in Manchester on:- 29 June 2024.

The 19 year old from Sandbach, Cheshire, has clocked a time of 12.03 for the event this year and is aiming to smash her personal best to land a place with Team GB.

Fellow Edge Hill student Ryan Mostyn from Kirkby, who is studying Sports Therapy, has also qualified for the Olympic qualifying event in the men's 100m after running a time of 10.61 this year.

Olivia, who has been involved with athletics since she was 11, has not only broken a string of University athletics records during her time in Ormskirk, she recently received the Academic Achievement Award for the highest grades in her year group.

She has juggled the demands of studying for a degree with gym sessions, track workouts and rehabilitation exercises, including:- double sessions 3 times a week with coach Frankie Arkwright, an Edge Hill alumnus.

Olivia, whose inspiration is 2012 Olympic heptathlon champion Jessica Ennis-Hill, said:- "Luckily, my course has finished now for the summer so I can focus entirely on training., but even during the semester my lecturers were very understanding. They allowed me to leave early for training as long as I kept up with my work."

Friends, too, have been supportive and Olivia says the athletics community at Edge Hill is a close-knit family known for its loud and enthusiastic support at competitions.

"We're known as the loudest team at competitions. It's great to have that kind of support. It really makes a difference"
commented Olivia.

While Olivia is now training her sights on the possibility of Paris, she is realistic about her goals.

Olivia added:- "The Olympics is every athlete's ultimate goal. If I don't make it this year, I'll keep pushing for 2028. I'm only 19, so I have time. When you're younger, you see athletes on TV and think it's unattainable, but it's about taking baby steps and improving every day."

The UK Athletics Championships are hosted by Manchester Regional Arena on 29-30 June and events will be screened by the BBC.
