Full video coverage of the Vigil at Southport Town Hall on 30 July 2024 and photos

SOUTHPORT is a close-knit community, and it came together in the wake of the tragedy, that has now claimed 3 young lives. On Tuesday, 30 July 2024, the Town hosted a vigil at:- 6 pm on Lord Street, Southport. to remember the victims of the previous day's knife attack.

People gather outside The Atkinson on Southport's Lord Street to show support to all those affected by this horrific incident.

Cllr Marion Atkinson Leader Sefton Council Leader before the event said:- "It is entirely understandable and appropriate that local people want to gather and show their support and solidarity. Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone affected at this incredibly sad time."

This footage was shot at the event and clearly shows the large crowd gathered to pay their respects to all concerned.-

It is worth adding that a Book of Remembrance is available for people to sign at:- The Atkinson, in Southport, and 1 is being set up, at Bootle Town Hall.

These are a few photos from the vigil:-

Southport's residents have pulled themselves together again for a 2nd time

FOLLOWING the shocking horror of Monday, 29 July 2024, Southport was just coming to terms with it, when thugs descended on the Town and after a night of violence which left 53 Officers injured and a huge amount of damage to local residents and businesses, along with a Mosque,  But Southport was not going to let this go, and local residents of all religions and backgrounds came, along with many local businesses came out in force to fix the damage. They where also joined by workers from Sefton Council as well as from people from all over the North West came to the Town to try and help restore the area to what it was before this shocking attack took place. Sadly not all the damage could be fixed and items taken from a local business could be replaced within a day, but what work was able to be undertaken left the area looking far better. The residents also told the media of their fear of being attacked and their property being set alight, including many who have kids. If you are one of the residents or businesses that were affected by this appalling behaviour, and you need to talk, please do contact Samaritans for free on:- 116123. Lines are open 24 hours, every day of the year. You can also contact Victim Care Merseyside on:- 08081753080. Lines are open:- 7am to 7pm, Monday to Friday.
