Liverpool Philharmonic Announce New Partnership between the British Double Reed Society and In Harmony Liverpool

LIVERPOOL Philharmonic is delighted to announce a new partnership between the British Double Reed Society and their flagship learning and engagement programme, In Harmony Liverpool.

The partnership is the 1st of its kind for In Harmony, where a specialist instrumental foundation are supporting the development of the programme. The commitment will cover financial and in-kind support to the programme for 3 years from 2024-2027. Provision is specifically focussed on providing double reed support, activity, and events to In Harmony students.

James Turnbull, Chair of the British Double Reed Society said:- "The British Double Reed Society is thrilled to be supporting In Harmony with a grant that will help in fostering the growth of double reed playing in Liverpool and its surrounding areas. In Harmony have a proven track record for improving access to instrumental music tuition and the BDRS looks forward to developing its partnership with In Harmony to bring the opportunity of double reed music making to more people." 

Zoë Armfield, Head of Learning said:- "We are absolutely thrilled to have the investment and support of the British Double Reed Society from:- 2024 to 2027. This unique partnership will have a significant impact on In Harmony, further developing the skills of our double reed players as well as expanding overall provision. The BDRS network will allow our young people to share their enthusiasm with like-minded musicians across the UK, and we look forward to working together in staging accessible and exciting double reed events over the next 3 years."

In Harmony Liverpool provides free music education and instrumental tuition to over 1,700 children across 8 settings in Anfield and Everton, 2 of the City's most disadvantaged communities. Children make music, learn an instrument, sing, compose, listen, rehearse and perform together each week in and out of school, led by professional musicians.


Aldi donates to local charities in Merseyside during Summer Holidays

ALDI has donated £1500 to charities in Merseyside to help support those in need during the School Holidays.

The donations form part of the supermarket's wider Early Years Fund initiative with community giving platform Neighbourly which has seen more than 70 charities nationwide receive additional funds.

Local charities including:- The Hope Centre, St Helens and South Liverpool Zero Waste Community received a donation of £500 each from the UK's fourth largest supermarket to help support them ahead of the busy summer period.

Alongside the donations, Aldi will be continuing to donate surplus food to local charities from all its stores in Merseyside throughout the summer.

Liz Fox, National Sustainability Director at Aldi UK, said:- "The School Holidays can be an incredibly challenging time for families across the country and we are committed to doing everything we can to support them. Alongside providing surplus food, we hope our additional donations will further help our charity partners in the incredible work that they do."

Steve Butterworth, CEO, Neighbourly, added:- "We were delighted to support Aldi with the disbursement of this extra funding on top of the food donations the supermarket provides year round. Donations like this are vital to allowing our charity partners to support communities across the country during these times of heightened demand."

Aldi's partnership with Neighbourly has donated over 40 million meals to good causes since launching in 2019 and will see thousands of free meals given to local charities, foodbanks and community groups over the upcoming School Holidays.

Shoppers can also donate food to local charities, foodbanks and community groups via the community donation points in Aldi stores nationwide.
