2 George's celebrate over 90 years of friendship

AT HC-One's Leighton Court Care Home located in Wirral, Merseyside, resident, George Price, aged 95 years old, has been reflecting on his 90 year friendship with his beloved friend, also named George.

George Price and George Foukes, who is also 95 years old, both met in their childhood as small children at the age of 5 years old when they both lived in the same street in Seacombe, Wirral. Resident George Price, who is a couple of months older than his friend of 90 years, George Foukes, revealed that he remembers them both being small boys playing outside, running up and down the street.

George Price, resident at Leighton Court Care Home, said:- "As you grow up and become older, friends come and go, and there may be times when you don't see each other as much. However, me and my friend George have always kept in touch, and he rings me on the phone most evenings. George and I have created so many memories together over the years, but 1 thing I have cherished about my friendship with George, is getting to know him and watch him grow up. There was always something new to learn about my friend, George, he's an interesting character!"

When asked what the secret was to friendship, George Price stated:- "Knowing nice people is key! You choose who your friends are, and they are an extension of you. Choosing friends who share similar values, morals and qualities to you is important."

Southport Care Home resident completes sponsored walk to raise funds for Battersea

AT HC-One's Dale Park Care Home, in Southport, Merseyside, a resident has gone above and beyond by raising money for charity, completing a sponsored walk with colleagues for Battersea.

Upon hearing that the staff at the dementia Care Home had entered the:- 'Walk for A Cure' for Alzheimer's Research UK, resident Lily Durham was inspired to do her own sponsored walk to raise money for a cause very close to her heart, Battersea, who rescue, reunite and rehome dogs and cats.

Lily, who turns 80 later this year, has been an animal lover all her life and absolutely adores anything cute and fluffy so was determined to raise as much money as possible.

Lily decided to do a 5k walk, split over 3 days, with a special party on the final day to mark her crossing the finish line.

Wellbeing Coordinator, Lorcan Montgomery, accompanied Lily on her walk and Lily's daughter Laura also joined in.

On day 1, despite a smattering of rain towards the end of the walk, Lily did really well and brought cuddly Dalmatian toy Jasper along for the ride.

Day 2 was a resounding success and Lily was an absolute trooper, not even stopping for a break.

On the final day totalling 1.66km, it was lovely weather outside and Lily walked over the finish line, completing her walk with £64 raised for Battersea charity.

Andrea Ekuruemu, Dale Park Home Manager, commented:- "Dale Park Care Home are incredibly proud of Lily for doing this work. She has shown such determination to complete the walk. Well done Lily!"
