The 100th Southport Flower Show - Part 1

THE Southport Flower Show is the largest independent flower show in the UK, and in 2024 it was held for the 100th time from:- 15 August to 18 August 2024, within:- Victoria Park, Southport, Merseyside.

This years show had lots to do and enjoy, with show gardens like these, along with:- floral displays, cookery demonstrations, show jumping, dog displays, live music, and other entertainment, and lots, lots more. But, many of those attending did comment about the fact the entertainers like the Mad Nun, stilt walkers, and the clowns were definitely missing and they would like to see them back in 2025. Some of those who came to the show also pointed out a lack of disabled toilets for the numbers of disabled visitors attending the show. But overall the atmosphere was good and most people who visited the show came away happy. An added bonus was the fact disabled visitors to the event could get around far better due to flooring being put in the tents this year. This year we have to comment on the flooring in some of the tents. This flooring was extremely helpful after the heavy rain for the disabled and this also helped able bodied visitors as well.

The weather conditions on some of the 4 days might have been a bit wet, but this water helped with many of the flowers in the outdoor exhibits. For many the highlight was seeing this year's show gardens, but nearly all of them had also sensitively added a tribute to the 3 girls who had died in the knifeman attacked a few weeks before the show, in Southport. Some of the flowers after the show had ended they where donated to the tributes to the girls outside Southport Town Hall.

The 100th year had lots of VIP guests, and we will have lots of photos in our following edition of them for you. Some of these amazing guests also took part in some of the many activities at the show! The 100th show's line up boasted:- Carole Baxter and George Anderson from Beechgrove Garden, Adam Frost from BBC Gardeners' World, David Domoney from Love Your Garden and the Skinny Jean Gardener from Blue Peter, along with Miss Charlotte Grant, Liverpool City Region 2024. Other guests included:- TV presenter Michaela Strachan, CBeebies stars Justin Fletcher and Janette Manrara and Alja� Skorjanec from Strictly Come Dancing. Platinum Pudding winner Jemma Melvin, Matt Tebbutt from Saturday Kitchen, Nisha Katona MBE - Mowgli restaurateur, cookbook author and TV Chef, Simon Rimmer from Sunday Brunch and Phil Vickery of This Morning, and many others.
