Southport holds a:- 'Walk of Unity' to held reunite the community

LOCAL faith leaders, Moslem, Jewish, Christian, and others, all participated in the:- 'Walk of Unity' which took place in Southport, Merseyside, between a mosque and a local synagogue, on:- 2 September 2024. Also attending were His Majesty’s representative The Lord-Lieutenant of Merseyside, Mark Blundell, and The Mayor of Sefton - Cllr June Burns.

This walk took place as a show of unity between all faiths within the seaside resort town, following the violent disorder that took hold in the wake of the shocking knife attack on:- 29 July 2024, at a Taylor Swift themed children's dance class on Hart Street, Southport.

The walk between the Southport Islamic Centre Mosque which was damaged in the riot on Sussex Road, and the synagogue, concluded within the synagogue's meeting room, with a meal and a presentation. This was followed by a multi-faith visit to see the inside of the synagogue itself.

The walk was backed by Strengthening Faith Institutions, Together, The Board of Deputies of British Jews, the Faiths Forum for London, and the Ostro Fayre Share Foundation.

This event not only acted as a way to show the Town's commitment to creating a lasting legacy of connection across divides, but also to show that the people of Southport stand against hate and division. They also used the occasions to remember the victims of the stabbings.
