Southport welcomes in Christmas 2024 with a Festive Fun Day

THE weather might not have been the best on the:- 24 November 2024, with many places all over the UK having to cancel the annual Christmas warm ups, but Southport wouldn't let the weather dampen it's festive spirit. Instead of a Light Switch-On the Town opted to hold a day long Family Festive Fun Day, packed full of music, dance and lots of other fantastic activities, on Lord Street and around the Town Centre. The Festive Fun Day was organised by both:- Southport BID and Sefton Council, and had a huge range of live entertainment that included 14 local dance Schools, bitesize pantomimes and more. Plus the main stage, located on Lord Street even had big names like:- Lemar, Toploader and Gemma Collins performing.

This was the start of what will be a fantastic Christmas program that will see a large range of festive activities taking place in and around the Town, like the Gingerbread Trail, to the weekend appearances of both Santa Claus and his lovely Mrs Claus at the Wayfarers Shopping Arcade.  Plus, on 1 December, in Southport alone, you have the 15th Queenscourt's Santa Sprint, from:- 10:30 am to 2 am. Christmas Parade is back Bigger than ever before. It is the biggest Christmas parade in The North West and will be raising funds and collecting toy donations for many different organisations and families across the North West. The organisers of the vehicle parade have told us that:- "We leave Ainsdale at 4pm and will then make our way through:- Ainsdale, Hillside, Birkdale, Town Centre and then ending with our extravaganza display on Southport's Promenade... We invite you to line the streets to show us as much support as possible. This event is full of Christmas Joy for your little ones and not to be missed. We shall keep you posted with the actual route and timings... Lots of special appearances on our many themed floats and more!" Also on the 1 December is the annual Birkdale Village Christmas Fayre & Christmas Tree Light Switch On, from 12 noon to 4:30pm, with festivities that includes:- live entertainment, a Christmas Market, food stalls, lots of mulled wine and mince pies, Father Christmas, and lots, lots more... And that is just the start... Other activities are also taking place throughout December, including a Festive Dog Walk and Brunch in support of the Little Legs Dog Rescue, on:- Saturday, 7 December, from 9 am.
