Liverpool restaurant providing a free staff and volunteer Christmas meal for Wirral charity, Charlotte's Brightside

LIVERPOOL One's bottomless BBQ restaurant, Smoke and Dough, has provided a wonderful act of kindness by giving Wirral charity, Charlotte's Brightside, a free Christmas night out. On Tuesday, 10 December 2024, 20 of the charity's staff and volunteers enjoyed a free meal at the restaurant as a reward for all their hard work serving the community.

Having just celebrated its 5th birthday, Smoke and Dough has developed a great reputation for being an ethical, community focused restaurant. The independent family-friendly BBQ restaurant prides itself on being inclusive and affordable for all, with incredible value offers, and recent initiatives have included giving away 50 free pints on Fridays and:- 'Kids Eat Free' Sundays.

The team have also been doing great charity and community work in the background; helping raise over £4,500 for the Roots Foundation back in July and helping raise money for local charity Ykids. This latest initiative aims to recognise the ongoing work of the team at Charlotte's Brightside, most of whom are volunteers, to bridge the gap in their community.

Founded in the name of Charlotte Churchill, who tragically died in a car crash aged just 19, Charlotte's Brightside is a community hub based in New Brighton. Through the community hub they bridge the gaps in society by offering a social supermarket and a wide range of free and low cost activities, initiatives and support; helping combat loneliness, isolation, poverty, lack of skills and mental health issues.

Teenage Cancer Trust unit in Merseyside receives festive treats from Aldi

ALDI has donated festive treats to young people being supported by Teenage Cancer Trust and the staff who care for them at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital.

The unit in Alder Hey Children’s Hospital received packages from the supermarket which were filled with a range of products, helping young people celebrate this Christmas.

Since first partnering with the charity in 2017, Aldi has raised more than £10 million, with a goal to raise £15 million by 2027 to ensure no young person faces cancer alone.

Aldi’s latest donation saw 28 Teenage Cancer Trust units across the UK receive the festive packages, giving young people the chance to enjoy some treats with their friends and family in the run-up to Christmas.

Michelle Aucott, Senior Partnership Manager at Teenage Cancer Trust, said:- "Aldi works with us on a wide range of initiatives to help raise essential funds for Teenage Cancer Trust and we’re incredibly grateful for this festive donation. The treats will help to bring some festive cheer to the units during what can be an incredibly challenging time for the families we support."

Liz Fox, National Sustainability Director at Aldi, said:- "We hope this small gesture brings some festive cheer to young people with cancer who are celebrating Christmas this year. We are proud to support the incredible work of Teenage Cancer Trust in helping young people across the nation and will keep doing whatever we can to help them make a difference in their units."

Teenage Cancer Trust works in partnership with the NHS to provide highly trained expert staff and specialist cancer units in NHS hospitals across the UK. The charity is there at every stage, from diagnosis, through treatment and after treatment. It also brings young people with cancer together so they can support each other.
