Empire Restaurant, Southport welcomes in Chinese New Year 4722!

THE year of the Wood Snake, 4722, started on 29 January 2025, was welcomed in style at the:- Empire Restaurant, on Nevill Street, Southport. This Southport restaurant is well known for its Chinese Malaysian and Thai cuisine and for putting on quite a show at Chinese New Year. Yet again the fantastic displays were put on by the:- Liverpool Kung Fu team, who performed traditional Lion and Dragon Dances, as well as putting on a few Kung FU moves... During the performances inside and outside, the sounds of small and large drums and cymbals make for a dramatic soundscape. The venue was also decorated with lanterns inside adding to the atmosphere.

If you missed the events you will have to wait until 17 February 2025 for the next Lunar New Year when the year of the Fire Horse starts, or the Lunar Calendar year 4723.

Did you know that the Lion Dances which are performed in by the Chinese and in other Asian countries aim to mimic a lion's movements in a lion costume to bring good luck and fortune? The primary colours used in Lion Dance costumes are:- red, gold, white, and green, with each colour representing a different aspect of Chinese culture and tradition. Also, did you know that this year's lucky numbers for the Snake sign are:- 2, 8, and 9? Plus, the lucky colours for the Snake sign are:- black, red, and yellow!
