Primary School kids Shine at University art exhibition!

ON Thursday, 27 March 2025, children who participate in the Shine programme were invited to Edge Hill University, where they, along with their proud families, showcased their Frida Kahlo exhibition in celebration of International Women's Day. Schools involved were:- Eccleston Primary School, Longton St.Oswalds Primary School, Mere Brow Primary School, Burscough Bridge Methodist School and Sunday Shine group, held at the Nordico Lounge, Ormskirk.

The Shine Programme, founded and created by local Artist, Writer and Educational Wellbeing Practitioner, Mrs Hayley Coggins, has been successfully delivering Shine in Sefton and Lancashire Schools for many years. Shine is dedicated to nurturing children’s emotional wellbeing, confidence and self esteem through sensory, therapeutic storytelling and creative activities. It encourages children to explore and recognise their unique gifts and talents. Additionally, Shine offers wellbeing events for teachers, parents and carers.

Hayley expressed:- "It is a real privilege and blessing to work with so many talented children and young people. We are incredibly proud of everyone who worked hard to showcase the inspiring Mexican Artist, Frida Kahlo. We chose to explore her life and legacy because of her strength, resilience, and unique artistic style. Her determination to overcome personal and physical challenges embodies the essence of the Shine Programme. Her art, deeply personal and expressive, also demonstrates the healing power of creativity, encouraging children to use artistic expression as a way to cope with difficulties and find inner strength. I would like to express a heart felt thank you to the wonderful schools, children and their families for their continued support with the Shine Programme. Thank you to Kellie Whittle and team (FoE), Edge Hill University, Rose Halsall, student volunteers Emily and Ella and Southport Reporter, Patrick for all their help in making this event truly special. I would also like to thank Ryan and team at the Nordico Lounge in Ormskirk for supporting the Shine Programme and allowing the children to have a beautiful space to work on this project. I have always been dedicated and passionate about children’s mental health and wellbeing, Shine Programme uniquely enriches the lives of children and young people and proudly celebrates its 20th year. Investing in young people's mental health and wellbeing is crucial, especially in today’s world where challenges can often feel overwhelming."
