Get Creative with University Level courses at the Hugh Baird University Centre

IF you are wanting a career in the creative industries or are looking to expand on your creativity, the Hugh Baird University Centre have the courses for you. The Hugh Baird University Centre (HBUC) offers a range of creative degree level courses, all approved by the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan). So whilst you'll benefit from the top class teaching and facilities provided at the Hugh Baird University Centre, you will also be a member of UCLan's community and enjoy access to a range of their facilities and learning resources as well as membership of the Students Union.

What kind of courses are available?

The courses available are 2 year Foundation Degrees with the option to undertake an additional one year of study to Top Up to a full Honours Degree.

Full or part time, the choice is yours...

Courses and can be studied on a full or part time basis so you can fit your study around work and family life.

Who can study a degree?

In general, applicants to our undergraduate courses are normally expected to have completed a level 3 qualification (i.e. ALevels, BTEC Extended Diploma or equivalent) as well as a minimum of 3 GCSE's or equivalent including maths and English at grade 9 to 4 (grade A*- C in the previous grading system). Relevant work/life experience may also be taken into consideration on an individual basis, so don't be put off if you don't meet the stated criteria.

Those who come straight from 6th form or college.

Mature students aged 18+ who want to return to education.

Individuals who are working in industry and want to study for qualifications to progress within their career.

Not quite ready for a full Foundation Degree?

If you feel you're not quite ready to study a Foundation Degree or don't have the entry requirements, you can study a Foundation Degree with Optional Integrated Foundation Entry. As well as Creative Degrees, the Hugh Baird University Centre also offers a Level 3 Foundation Diploma in Art and Design, that offers a practical route into the area of Art and Design in preparation for university level study and employment.

Creative Make Up Design and Practice.

Digital Imaging and Photography.

Fashion and Textiles.

Graphic Design.

Interior and Spatial Design.

Moving Image Production.

Visual Merchandising and Promotional Design.

Games Design.

Career Readiness...

Employability skills are embedded into all of the creative courses and the University Centre has strong links with both national and Local employers. Creative Industries students have the opportunity to take part in live briefs, visits from guest speakers and industry experts. Lecturers on the courses are either still engaged in industry practice or have recently moved into teaching from relevant creative employers. All of this contributes to both full time and part time students leaving the Hugh Baird University Centre career ready.

You can attend the Creative Courses Open Day, at the Hugh Baird University Centre, on Friday, 29 May 2020, between 10am and 5pm. This event will give you the chance to meet with course specific lecturers, tour the facilities and view our current students work from their end of year degree show. The informal Open Day is the perfect opportunity to get a feel for the University Centre and what it would be like to study there.

Starkids Party and Frozen at Southport Bijou

THE Southport Bijou Cinema, located in Post Office, on Friday, 21 February 2020, held a special screening of the kids' classic Frozen. Those attending also got to meet characters from the film, played by Southport's Star Kids Party, who attended and joining in the film to sing along, as well as getting pictures with your little ones.
