Global surge in Coronavirus cases raise fears about a 2nd wave
ON Saturday, 13 June 2020, a spike in
COVID-19 cases in Beijing has increased fears of a 2nd wave of
the Coronavirus Pandemic, as the Chinese capital goes into
'wartime emergency mode.' With China closing 11 neighbourhoods
around the wholesale market in the City's Southwestern Fengtai
District's Xinfadi market, it just shows you how tricky COVID-19
is to keep under control. The virus has killed more than 420,000
people worldwide, according to Johns Hopkins University, and
China had thought it had it under control after Beijing hadn't
had any locally transmitted case for almost 2 months. With an
estimated 7.6 million people infected worldwide, this should act
as a wakeup call for other nations, that we can not become
complacent. Any small cluster of infections now could trigger a
global 2nd wave as Governments to reopen economies and ease
lockdown restrictions.
