Air Show Hit By Bad Weather
YET again 'Sunny' Southport did not live up to its reputation as high winds and rains pounded the spectators and aircraft.
What is now the leading air show of its type in the UK was reduced to a rag tag display which proved heart breaking to the spectators and organisers alike.
Most spectators arrived on Saturday with sun braking through the clouds to promise a great day but as the day went on the cloud level dropped and the
wind increased. This meant most of the displays were cancelled.
By the end of the first day, the war on the beach was bravely
fought by the Army, but a cloud burst sent spectators running
to their cars. "We wanted to stay for longer, but as we have young kids and we were getting socked through, we called it a day."
Jill from Manchester told us from her car.
To add to the misery, at the end of Saturday, a coach broke down on the coast road
causing a massive tail back that lasted a good hour after the show traffic normally clears.
Sunday
proved a bit better with more displays, but again the weather
stole the show. I have to say I was glad I was
not flying this year! I really felt sorry for the Wing
Walkers as they braved not only the stunts, but the wind and the
rain.
Well
done to all who were involved. Despite the bad weather
you put on a display and that makes you a credit to the
area.
We
like to thank Sefton Tourist Board for their help this year,
the RAF and also Pleasureland.
