SEPTEMBER'S regional final of search for a star provided an eclectic night of variety performances from the latest batch of local fame-seekers in a night that proved to be full of surprises.
The event sponsored by Sefton Tourist Board and held in the Southport Floral Hall, played host to a marvel of performances from across the region after undergoing several weeks of preparations and heats to entertain the audience on September 18 - taking a step closer to their dream job.
Particular breath-taking performances came from dance troupe the Passionettes of Liverpool, who narrowly failed to be in the outright result despite their experience and variety to entertain. Singer and pianist Christina Melee who gave a stoic and solid like performance with a touch of Nick Cave and Alison Moyet and the laser beam baton juggler Steve Arnold who thrilled the audience with amazing feats of visual effects.
But it was Southport local boy James Lloyd who proved to be the punch of the pack. Beating off second placed Christina Melee and the third placed juggler with a spellbinding Rick Astley style performance of his songs to overcome the judge's decision, completely capturing the audience.
Winner Lloyd remarked on his win:- "I am delighted to win. But it's anybody's guess about the final. I am just glad to be there and looking forward to playing with the band again, they were just great!"
Finalists from across the UK will gather at the Floral Hall next month to compete for the grand final and the possibility of a record contract.
