Southport WEEKender.
Article and Photographs by Patrick Trollope.

The weekend saw Southport hosting the 15th year of the Weekenders, which started in a small caravan park on the Scottish borders in a town called Berwick-upon-Tweed.  Alix Lowes said, "I've put my life into running these events.  This one is the 30th Weekender and I know how special the Southport Weekenders have become."  This year's performances included some of the Worlds leading DJ's and PA's. The last PA to sing at this one was Barbara Tucker!  Interestingly, Barbara plucked from the audience a local Southport DJ, whom I had photographed at over New Year in Bar Flavor (see New Year 2001/2002) and a lad from Chicago to dance with her on the stage.  Their pics are on here somewhere....  I was going to give you interviews from the people who were watching the event, but all of them said the same "This is a fantastic event."  One added "It is a credit to Southport and also this is a once in a lifetime event, roll on November."

Unfortunately, like this event, I think November is now Fully Booked!  As the demand was so high for tickets, a lot of  security was in place, but no problems arose.  "I have to say, this is the best organized  event around and the security are marvellous and very helpful."  Just to quote one chap.  The event ended in a local night club called the Glass House, where the organizers celebrated the end of yet another successful and entertaining Weekender.  Now I will let the 180+ photographs tell you the rest!

Just before I do go, I would like to add a very big "Thank You" to  Steve W. for his help and all the others who assisted us.
