Queen's
Diamond Jubilee Tour visits Liverpool

LIVERPOOL played host
to the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Tour of the UK, on Thursday, 17
May, 2012, and we just couldn’t miss it. The Albert
Dock was packed out as The
Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh attended an event in the
Maritime Museum. The Royal Party started the visit with a ride
in one of Liverpool's iconic Wacker Quacker Ducks; in this case
it was Wacker Quacker 1, owned and operated by local firm,
Yellow Duck
Marine.
The driver was from Liverpool and the tour guide was from
Formby! After the trip on this amphibious assault vehicle, which
was originally designed for landing troops on enemy beaches
during the Second World War, they headed into the Merseyside
Maritime Museum for lunch. The lunch was prepared by Merseyside
Maritime Museum’s Head Chef, Ben Sheeran. The Royal couple had
the meal at the Maritime Dining Rooms, with the stunning views
across the Albert Dock and the Pier Head as the back drop. All
the food was sourced locally. Just before the visit Ben Sheeran
said:- "I hope I have picked the perfect dish for the time
of year, as we're just entering mackerel season. We have taken
great pride in creating it for the Royal visit, even down to the
finer points of catching the mackerel ourselves. The fish have
been 'line caught', which is recognised as a sustainable method,
because it avoids the by-catch associated with large-scale
trawling nets. We felt this approach to the menu was very
important when serving The Queen, in order to provide fresh,
sustainable ingredients that have been sourced locally."
After the lunch the Royal Party then departed, and an
historic sight, which might never happen again, was witnessed;
four Merseyside Lord Lieutenants, all in full uniform and the
High Sheriff of Merseyside with the Queen! Also in attendance
were Liverpool's Kensington All Saints Brownies who both
welcomed in and cheered off the Royal party, having been invited
to participate as part of their 60th Anniversary celebrations.
