Goldwing
motorbikes light up the town

DID
you spot the neon glowing Goldwing motorbikes
riding down Lord Street, Southport, on Saturday, 22 September
2012? The unusual parade which will bring dozens of brightly
decorated motorbikes had been organised by the Goldwings
Northwest group to help raise funds for Queenscourt Hospice.
With strobe lighting and other lights and even lasers, added to
the unusual horns and other sounds, this made a very unusual
attraction for both locals and visitors to the resort. Despite
the short notice, the event attracted a large crowd on Lord
Street as they passed by with the thanks of Merseyside Police
who gave them an escort, as well as other marches and
volunteers, including some Air Cadets from RAF Woodvale. Setting
of with both the Lord and Lady Mayor of Sefton they preformed 2
laps of a route that started at New Pleasureland and took in
Promenade, Leicester Street, Lord Street, Duke Street, Victoria
Way and the Esplanade. The event finished at Prince of Wales
Hotel on Lord Street for a static light display, with judging
and trophies being awarded. Earlier that day they had held a
static display on Chapel Street and that also we have been told
proved to be very successful. For more information about the
Goldwingers and their fundraising for
Queenscourt
Hospice, visit the group's
website. Lets hope this
leads to other ‘light parades' in the future.
