Ricoh Women's British Golf 2014 - Part 2

IT was a mixed week at
the RICOH Women's British Open Golf at Royal
Birkdale, over 7 July to 13
July 2014. The weather was just as unpredictable, as was at
times happening on the greens and fairways. The event attracted
many of the sporting elite from the ladies golfing community,
with competitors coming from Korea, China, USA, Australia and
New Zealand, along with Russia and many more countries. Sadly,
there could only be one winner and America's Mo Martin produced
2 of the finest shots of her life which resulted in a tremendous
'eagle'; that propelled her on to becoming a major
championship winner. "It's a dream come true."
were her first words after leaving the 18th. Also, having a
fantastic weekend, was Emma Talley who finished with a solid
final round of 73 (+1) thus making it her 1st RIOCH Women's
British Open win, for she came away with 6 over to claim the
Amateur trophy. The most interesting event of the week was
missed by most of the media. Musselburgh's Vikki Laing was the
only Scot to make the cut thanks to a stunning Albatross on 17,
and she became one of only a very few to ever get it! The last
day had a disappointing start, with the wind and rain playing
havoc with those playing, and with the media, yet the weather
vastly improved by the end of play when the last few to set off.
The video, we have uploaded on here, shows the final holes being
played by the winner, who stormed through the field and has
proven to be a force to be reckoned in the future. One thing we
can say is that all the participants, no matter whom, were
exceptional with their professionalism and sporting attitudes.
That is something many other sports should take note of. Even if
you do not like golf, the atmosphere created by all the staff,
volunteers, media, and most importantly the players, has made
this an extremely memorable event. The fact that the players
were so modest, like Vikki Laing, as you can see in the video of
her, and also of Mo Martin, is a credit to them and the sport in
general. We look forward to the return of the Ricoh Women's
British Open, to Royal Birkdale, and to the next Open Golf
event. But, for now, please enjoy our video highlights along
with the photographs from the week long activities on and off
the course. To see this coverage please click on

website.
It was announced at the 2014 event that Turnberry's famous Ailsa
course will be the venue for the 2015 Ricoh Women's British Open
for only the 2nd time in the Championship's history. We wish
them the best of luck with the 2015 event and we hope they have
the same success as Southport has enjoyed this year.
