Charity honours Southport spinal injuries specialist
A leading spinal injuries charity has
honoured specialist doctor Bakul Soni from the North West Regional Spinal
Injuries Centre at Southport hospital.
He received the Liz Martin Award for Achievement from the Spinal Injuries
Association (SIA) at a ceremony in Birmingham this month. The award was
announced on video-link by BBC1 Match of the Day host and former Everton FC
player Gary Lineker.
Dr Soni has treated more than 1,000 spinal injured patients since moving to
Southport in 1985. He has published more than 300 research articles on the
subject.
He said he took pride working for patients at the centre, saying:- "It is
a privilege to work with such a dedicated team and improve the quality of life
of the individuals we treat."
The award he received is given in honour of former SIA trustee Liz Martin who
helped others and got the most out of life despite her tetraplegia. It is given
to a healthcare professional who has shown dedication to enabling a better
quality of life for high level tetraplegics.
